I’m a waiter and my boss encouraged me to spit on a customer’s food

Would you like a side of saliva with those fries?

Restaurant worker Mitchell Todd shared a very “uncomfortable” experience they had while working in the food service industry in a two-part TikTok they posted recently.

Todd — who uses they/them pronouns– revealed that their boss allegedly instructed them to spit in a customer’s food during their “craziest day at work.”

In the clip, viewed over 1.9 million times, Todd said they had to go to an unpopulated area on the street to tell the story as they were afraid someone would overhear it due to its chaoticness.

Todd explained that the day started out normal like any other, and how they were the only server on staff.

They were doing several different jobs until a man, whom Todd called “really freaking cute” and “extremely attractive,” walked in.

“I wouldn’t say I’m being overly flirty, but I’m putting a little extra sugar on it,” they said. “I really [got] the vibe [that] he’s responding well to my extra sugar.”

Todd then took the guy’s order and later brought it over to the table once it had been cooked. However, the customer didn’t eat his meal because he had a “weird request.”

The demand?

“I was wondering if you could spit in my food. I would really, really love that.”

Todd was so shocked that they thought they didn’t hear the man correctly. “There’s zero doubt in my mind that was a mistake,” Todd noted.

But the customer persisted and asked again. Todd told the buyer that he “would probably get fired, as my manager would probably not be OK with that.”

Because Todd’s manager “values the customer experience over anything else,” the employer told Todd to make like Nike and “just do it.”

“I’m like, this is obviously a kink thing, I do not want to do that,” Todd continued in the second video, which has nearly 600,000 views.

“Dude, just do it, it’s no big deal,” they claimed the manager stated. The customer then divulged that he would tip Todd “very, very well” if they spilled some saliva into his meal. “I walked over and I felt so uncomfortable,” Todd said, adding that they did eventually spit into the food.

However, the man wasn’t happy with it and allegedly told them to “come on, spit in my food, just spit.”

The customer reportedly forced Todd to spittle on all individual parts of the food, later leaving a a $100 cash tip.

The manager was purportedly fired following the incident, as the restaurant’s public relations executive called the two workers and said that a customer left a Yelp review writing that “they will spit in your food on command.”
