Haitian private airline Sunrise Airways has opened its new base in Antigua and Barbuda due to the unrest in Haiti, according to the announcement made by airline officials.

Antigua was chosen as the new base for its advantages in connectivity, technical maintenance and favorable agreements. Sunrise Airways continues to adapt to the regional market, aiming to meet the expectations of Caribbean travelers and improve regional connectivity.

Vidji Virdol, the marketing manager of Sunrise Airways, said that the Caribbean communities have supported them in the airline’s progress despite several challenges. Adding that the Government had helped them facilitate a smooth launch despite the difficult decision to move the base from one country to another.

According to Virdol, initial trust issues due to the airline’s Haitian origins have been overcome and now passenger numbers have increased.

Additionally, Sunrise Airways has also decided to launch cargo transportation services across the Caribbean region, in an objective to strengthen its presence.

  1. This speaks well for our aviation industry. The more Airlines that make Antigua their home base in the Eastern Caribbean, the better it is. And then when Liat 2020 takes to the skies than the competition will really start. And I’m sure it is the public that will benefit.

  2. All this talk about being station here don’t help would be Costomer, let’s here huge tax reduction by the government on ticket purchase, government get about 45% of ticket cost.
