The government of Antigua and Barbuda has formally invited international observer missions from the Commonwealth, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to monitor its upcoming general elections, following the dissolution of Parliament last week.

In three separate letters dated April 5, Prime Minister Gaston Browne informed the respective organizations that Parliament was dissolved on April 1, 2026.

Browne said he intends to announce the election date on April 7.

The letters, addressed to Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey, OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin, and CARICOM Secretary-General Carla Barnett, each requested the deployment of observer teams to oversee the electoral process.

“In these circumstances, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda would welcome the presence of a Commonwealth Observer Group,” Browne wrote, noting that similar invitations were extended to the OAS and CARICOM.

He also assured that all customary courtesies and support typically granted to such missions would be provided.

The move signals the government’s intention to subject the electoral process to regional and international scrutiny as the country prepares to elect a new administration.

Under Antigua and Barbuda’s Constitution, general elections must be held within 90 days of the dissolution of Parliament.

  1. PM Please invite Donald Trump as well. You don’t want him to say that the election in Antigua and Barbuda wasn’t free and fair. He did that to Maduro.

  2. I don’t know how we believe these election observer mission is some messiah of moral integrity coming when indeed they are controlled by the western hegemony and CIA agent to maintain regime change in interest of the big countries, so each government calling them is actually proclaiming or signalling to the west that they will work in their best interest, democracy is really the tool that the west use resources access and exploitation.

  3. I applaud the Prime Minister for this. I know it’s traditionally done, but still he deserves credit for making sure the election is conducted fairly.

  4. Look Antiguans and Barbudans will go crazy and jam naked on the street if Gaston only lose this election, they would be so overjoyed that they will dance all on their head.
