‘I weep for… journalism” Shawn Nicholas responds to reports that she is to resign from the UPP

I dismissed it right away because I believe I know Shawn. She has always the most forthright person so I really was not taken by this
What I think is more important is the ATTEMPT to want to do this. If anyone doubted that the ABLP’s answer to almost getting whipped as the last pill is to try to “mash up” the UPP by whatever means they can use, then this your answer. What is worst is that they are using our money to do it. Do we really need a “Sports Commissioner”? This is just ABLP using our money to try to sanitize itself. We wait to see what will be given to Dr Mansoor but it’s easy to imagine that another burden will be placed on our “empty” treasury in the interest of ABLP.
As for UPP, I suggest that a press conference be called soonest with all of the party top brass,bro include Lovell if his schedule will allow, and start to push back on the ABLP’s over aggressive attempt to mash up your party.
I have also noted that forum has been if late used aggressively in that same attempt. Sensible people can figure this out but they are trying to pick off gullible ones by giving the sense that one person or the other is to be blamed. Note though that they don’t care about the UPP nor the leadership they accuse. So be warned.

Gaston Browne is moving Antigua towards a one-party state. 18-24 months ago the opposition party was on an upwards trajectory.

Browne had to do something drastically.

This has long been the state of journalism in Antigua and Barbuda. The professional and ethical standards of journalism long gone. Social media has only compounded it because now everyone has a voice and most are using that voice to advance, promote and sponsor inaccuracies and lies.
Democracy must be allowed to prosper in Antigua and Barbuda. Many people would like to see the destruction and annihilation of the UPP so we can have a one party state. So they use every effort and opportunity to add fuel to every fire.
Journalism is really at its lowest ebb but the truth must always flourish whether it is about ABLP or UPP.. We can never allow those that are bent on creating mayhem by promoting falsehoods to win.

It is important that we maintain our professionalism at all times. It is also important that the truth must be reported. MP Nicholas does have a point. Professionals in the media have a responsibility to articulate the truth.

@Positive… To say the PM is blameless is to bury one’s head deep into the sand. It has become public knowledge of offers made to: Shuggy, Dwayne George, Anthony Smith and so on. Some have taken the bait while others have stayed fast to their principles. Money is not the only thing that will sway personal interests. It may be power, business interests or the promise of representation in a constituency, where demographics greatly favour you.
Whatever it is, the PM and those who are experts at swaying the Antiguan people psyche are hard at work. And It is clear to the enlightened how they plan to win the next election. That is: entice as many members of the UPP as they can to leave; use disinformation to lessen confidence in the party -the latest being that rag story about Shawn Nicholas; having posters on this and other social media platforms constantly attack the leadership- trying to pit one side against the other- of the party; wooing influential members of the society to ABLP by offering them all kinds of things.
So ABLP game plan is on but notably,
only to win an election and nothing to improve the lives of ordinary citizens. I am not the brightest so UPP must be wise to their plans as well. It is therefore time now to face the dragon head-on. Call a press conference and, among other things, let the people understand that you are aware of the shenanigans of the ABLP and show the public that the defections and enticements are part of ABLP’s “master plan” to win the next election.
