“I Am Not Resigning”: Pringle Pushes Back on Exit Calls After By-Election

LETTER FROM THE POLITICAL LEADER

Dear Fellow Members, Supporters, and Friends of the United Progressive Party:

I write to you today as your Political Leader, honouring the relationship of trust and transparency that must always exist between those who lead and those who follow. You deserve to hear from me directly – not through intermediaries, not through media speculation, and certainly not through anonymous sources with axes to grind.

I am not resigning. I have no intention of resigning. And I want you to understand, clearly and fully, the reasons why the attempt to force that outcome through the back door is a matter of serious concern to every UPP member.

On the Reports in Circulation

What you have been reading is disinformation dressed up as “breaking news,” sourced entirely from an entity managed by the Prime Minister. I will not be destabilized by planted stories. I will not panic. And I will not retreat into silence. Our members and supporters deserve better than a leader who crumbles at the first volley of rumour, and I intend to be better than that.

The Truth About St. Phillip’s North

I must speak plainly about the by-election in St. Phillip’s North, since the narrative around it is as dishonest as the reports about my leadership:

The UPP has never held that constituency in 50 years of electoral politics. Let that fact settle for a moment. We did not enter that contest under any illusion of an easy victory. We entered it as a testimony to our faith in Brother Alex Browne, to measure our support in challenging terrain, and to demonstrate to the people of St. Phillip’s North that the United Progressive Party is serious about earning their confidence – not just in “safe” constituencies, but across this entire Nation.

We entered St. Phillip’s North to signal our seriousness about contesting. We shared knowledge. We established presence. That is not defeat: That is the disciplined, patient work of a party serious about governing this country.

To use the result of a by-election in a constituency the UPP has never won – under any leadership – as justification for removing elected officials is not merely disingenuous. It is a fundamental disrespect to every member who has put up a hand for service and has worked, sacrificed, and honoured that commitment.

To Those with Genuine Concerns

I am keenly aware that not every voice of dissent is born of bad faith. There are members of this Party who have real and legitimate questions about our direction, our strategy, and our pace of renewal. To those members, I say this: My door is open. Come and speak with me. Bring your concerns, your ideas, and your criticisms. That kind of honest, principled engagement strengthens a party; it does not weaken it.

What I cannot and will not accept is the use of anonymous briefings and media plants as instruments of internal political warfare. If you believe I should no longer lead this Party, then make that case through the proper democratic channels that our Constitution provides. Do not conduct it through the shadows.

My Commitment to You

The people of Antigua and Barbuda deserve a credible, principled, and united Opposition. That is not a luxury in a democracy; it is a necessity. Without a strong UPP, there is no check on the exercise of government power, no alternative vision for this country’s future, and no meaningful choice at the ballot box. That is what is truly at stake in how we conduct ourselves in the days and weeks ahead.

I remain fully committed to building this Party into an organization worthy of leading this Nation. I remain committed to holding the current administration accountable on behalf of every resident who expects better from their government. And I remain committed to you — the members and supporters, whose faith, sacrifice, and loyalty are the foundation upon which everything else rests.

The work of this party does not pause for political theatre. It continues. And I continue with it – for as long as you, the membership, entrust me with the honour of your leadership.

With gratitude, determination, and unwavering commitment to our shared mission…

Hon. Jamale Pringle

  1. UPP will be in opposition for another 28years. Mr. Pringle cannot see 👀 he is a weak Leader. 🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬

  2. Yes Pringle, stay and fight. Make your mark. Don’t allow them to try and put you in a box. Your party needs you. A&B needs you in UPP leadership. Take the fight to the UPP cowards who are trying to belittle your “authority”

  3. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

  4. My brother, I respect you and your party but, for UPP to win the coming elections, you’ll have to step down…not out, from that leadership position. I honestly believe that, you don’t have that before in your belly to match GB. You were a woodworks teacher but, your oratory skill set is not quite on par. Whoever advice you to write that letter ✉️,have caused some injustice and a dose of psychological damage to the party. You should let good sense prevail. The ABLP realized that There’s is ruckus in the party so, they capitalized on the infighting. Think again before you put pen on paper.

  5. Saying you are not resigning does not make you sound big. It just makes you sound stupid. If you were thinking of the party you would not be parroting your handler’s words.

You know that you don’t have it to make those hard national and international decisions and to speak ad lib on subjects you should know about. No use saying you can learn. That is not a job that you come into to learn. Look at the leaders around the region and the world.

Those who are encouraging you and saying is your turn will not be around to soothe the hurt when you go to represent the nation and lay an egg. They might even turn on you.
You are a good guy. A nice guy. There are some things I will come to you for. Running the country, and the party in opposition, is not one of them.

When our leader stands and speaks with other leaders we want to be proud of him/her. On the job is too late to learn these things.
You will be going straight into the job, but not as the apprentice you are now. You have to be top drawer ready.

  6. Pringle needs his own voice. I only read about 10% of these long and nonsensical releases from the Giselle. Poor politics on your part Pringle, all you do is live behind press releases you didn’t write

  7. Composed by the CHAOS DEMON LIPSTICK HAG and signed under duress by she Likkle Black Boy

  8. You could’ve atleast delete the “-“ so we wouldn’t know it’s AI 🤦🏽‍♂️…. Pringle the first AI prime minister 🧢🧢🧢

  9. Jamale, from what I have heard, the person circulating the “breaking news” is one of your members or former members who still has close contacts within your party. Your inexperience in dealing with the internal chaos, animosity and division in the UPP has caused you to lose former allies and voters. Maybe one day the question why will be answered but regardless, that gives me no confidence whatsoever that you can run a country as head of the government.

I can’t vote for the UPP with you leading it. No one wants to see the internal chaos of your party turned into the internal chaos of a government. At this critical time in the world, UPP “chaos politics” would be a disaster for Antigua and would have far reaching consequences that would affect every citizen, whether wealthy or poor, and take years to remedy. You simply don’t have the experience (the internal chaos and defections in your party tells every Antiguan that) and a seasoned, crafty politician like Browne will always take advantage of that.

Once the elections are over (and we all know how they will end), you should leave feeling proud that you made an effort for the country but it’s time to do something else with your life. You are still young and have other opportunities. This politics game has aged you.

  10. Pringle its time to move aside PLEASE. YOU CSNT LEAD A HORSE TO WATER let alone lead a country. Gosh man cut your losses. You tried and failed.

  11. Jamale Pringle , do Us a favour and resign. UPP should just hand over the general election to ABLP. UPP does NOT have a winning slate. UPP has RUNNERS NOT WINNERS. Just a BIG joke.

  12. I wonder how them so called professional media entities feel now the man has officially responded to their nasty rumors. rumshop media. now for some real advice Pringle you should have resigned. you are a hot mess

  13. I could care less what people say! I have faith as small as a mustard seed for the UPP and I believe if we give them a chance, they can go better than the current administration. You never know until you try.

  14. Everything for this man is “Politically Motivated”. We know from internal sources that the upp doesn’t want you as their leader! We know Harold wants back his spot at the head of the table! Let’s see what happens at the convention.

  15. @Rhea. “I have faith as small as a mustard seed”.

And apparently you have a brain as small as a mustard seed.

  16. All ah U sick me tummick with these negative comments. It seems like we here in Antigua thrive for stupidity always. Who d hell r u think r u be fu ah judge people. Let the good ppl of this country decide that U fools. I just detest d comparison when who we have riidicule a citizens n person living on this 268 n none ah r U want talk bout yhat. Bunch a idiots we have here about. #Chaman!!!

  17. I wish him well. He was thrust into this situation from being a de facto leader and a single voice in parliament. I believe that his intentions are honorable. I only wish that he could see the leadership is playing games by using him as vendetta voice to carry their message. Again, I wish him well.

  18. How on earth does this news item on the Honourable Jamal Pringle receive more comments than the home invasion and armed robbery of a disabled 85-year-old?

WE ARE NUTS, AND THE WORLD AH WATCH WE
