Phoenix and Hurst

Press conferences are for asking questions, not for making speeches Government spokesman tells reporters Nikki Phoenix.

The awkward exchange occurred during today’s cabinet news conference.

This is not the first time the two have gone head to head.

  1. Seem that it’s Hurst that is always giving long historical speeches when he is asked a simple question. Someone needs to call him out on the lies he tells weekly. Always spinning the truth. One CANNOT BELIEVE 1 WORD THAT COMES OUT OF THAT MAN’S MOUTH.

  2. The problem I have with un-trained so-called Professionals is that they have no clue about the etiquettes of the profession. If Nicky was a trained reporter like Zoe Carlton who went before her, ze would have a much better decorum as to how to conduct herself in a “Press Briefing”. She is always out to make it a “Gotcha” Press Briefing”.
You ask a question from the person presenting. Whether or not you like the answer is irrelevant. It’s not a showtime of question and answer. It is not a debate either where you can debunk my answer and call me a liar. The spin you can do after the briefing. Cause now you have the answer to your question in writing. I mean when I look at the US press briefings, reporters are lucky to have been selected to ask ONE question. And yes, we are much smaller and therefore the small pool of reporters has about four questions each. And strange enough sometimes the questions are not even related to the notes of the briefing of that day. Which tells you those are questions given to them by their pollical operatives who themselves do not have the balls to come to the briefings themselves. All they need to do is register as independent reporters. Zoe is not related to any news media presently. But she applied for independence status. You think Shean Bird could not do that as well. He doesn’t need Nicky to do it for him.

    • When will the Gaston Browne administration push for the illegal printing of Antigua and Barbuda passports case to be called 🇦🇬 When will the Gaston Browne administration push for the illegal printing of Antigua and Barbuda passports case to be called 🇦🇬

FTS, the fact is LIE-NO-HELL and these government ministers are so so lie, that interviewers have to first lead them to the truth before or after posing the questions

      • When you accuse someone of not telling the truth, then you present it. If you don’t, it’s just baseless talk.
I remember during the Trump White House press briefing the that press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders would day after day stand in front of reporters with a straight face and lie to reporters, but non ever called her out for lying. It was done in the talk shows thereafter and of course the comedians had lots of materials for their shows.
They all knew the protocol and etiquette of the profession. Ask your question and accept whatever the answer is.

    • @Sideline> You always comparing Antigua and Barbuda to the USA. When did Antigua and Barbuda become a part of the United States of America and its way of life? Direct and to the point response. No rambling!!

      • I wonder if I really should answer you. But such low hanging fruits I won’t let pass.
You have heard about the saying, when America sneezes, we catch a cold. Or you have heard the Caribbean is referred to as Uncle Sam’s backyard. Or the music we listen to and the tv and movies we watch. All American. Even our children mimic all the American idols whether Sport, Music or Movie. Why you think Baldwin Spencer chooses to rename Buggy Peak to Mount Obama? Antiguans sit right here at home and shop online in America. All the food items in our supermarkets are mainly from the USA. So, as you can see, we look to America for everything. And that is why I even compare our governance in many cases to the USA. Albeit we have a different system of governance. Ours is a Westminster Style Parliamentary government. Hope I have sufficiently answered you. And that you are now far more educated and enlightened. It was my pleasure.

  3. I use to like to turn into the weekly briefings. Today I had to turn him off mid briefing. Guess I miss that exchange.

    • @ Rita, Hurst is a dinosaur and likes women to be subservient.

He’s out of TOUCH, out of his MIND and most importantly should definitely be out of OFFICE.

To people like Hurst, they think that women should still be barefoot, pregnant and take orders from males.

How does this man have such a prominent position in Antigua & Barbuda?

Mek he try the same foolishness with the Honourable Mia Mottley. Idiot man!

  4. Paul’s former sidekick
    now Sean Bird sidekick

De Guyanese gal still trying real hard to be taken serisously

    • Professional Etiquette demands a certain standard when attending a Press Briefing. This is not a talk show.
But what do we know about standards in this country? Everyone that has a mic and asks questions is perceived to be a journalist. Without any formal training. Even Serpent.
Please do not bring down the profession.
Not even Daren Matthew Ward is a reporter. He has no formal training as a reporter. Kieron Murdoch has.

        • Yes, Brixtonian she needs to get trained in Professional Etiquettes. Just like when you train a child to say Good Morning Mam, when they meet an elderly person on the street. It is called manners. My children would not dear address an elderly person any other way, but with Sir or Madam or Mrs. or Miss.

          • However @ From The Sideline, this well educated woman is no longer a child (and why are you referencing children; manners and etiquette which has nothing to do with an outstanding journalist asking probing questions).

Nikki Phoenix doesn’t have to react to Lionel Hurst the way he see fit … he’s not her father. Tarl!

Keep probing Ms Phoenix, and let’s hold these ‘no action’ empty vessels to account!

    • You mean the man is darn RIGHT!
you should have 2 minutes like in the USA and you can’t make speeches

  5. UPP plunged our country into a justice crisis ,when they brought in a DPP that has dark clouds hanging over his head.
We must remind the public that it was not the ABLP government that brought the DPP here.
The UPP did not do a proper background check on this man.

  6. A judge deemed Max Lie-no-hell Hurst not credible. This old fool has lied so much, he thinks people actually owe him some kind of respect. Nikki is so right. He comes to the public and continues his lies as if people have no sense to know when he is lying. And the dumb a$$ Labourites try to defend this man. How low can our country go under this corrupt, lying, lawless administration? Next level indeed. Next level of shameless lies, corruption, deceit and lawlessness.

  7. It’s a shame a country of young educated Antiguans and we allow these old retired fools controlling the country, putting generations after generations in the dark……Don’t we see does old heads have no strategies to curb the new crimes the young people are coming with now……………….Antiguans just talk talk talk and they’re losing their grounds

  8. I’ve watched this MISOGYNISTIC basket-case when he’s dealing with women in the media as well as journalists, and it’s not a nice look.

However, when Lionel Hurst is questioned/interviewed in the same BRUSQUE fashion by male counterparts he not only answers their questions, but rarely comes back at them with any discourteous aside.

If this misogynist clown 🤡 is married, I can bet your bottom dollar, that his wife does all the cooking; all the housework; shopping; and then to add further insult, he’ll make sure she doesn’t drive or run her OWN business.

The man is ‘non compos mentus’ , and highlights the bigger issue with certain men that just cannot handle educated women.

    DAMN DINOSAUR … 🦕

    • … including the out and out NUTCRACKERS like From The Sideline and his ilk.

      EDUCATED WOMEN ROCK …

    • Those jobs that a woman does that you mention, are the most important jobs that keeps a house a real home. There are unspoken rules of marriage that a man should be the breadwinner of the home and a woman the caretaker of the home. And when a woman wants to be the breadwinner as well, then that needs the consent of the man. Because arrangements will have to be made about who will be the caretaker of the home. The reverse is also true. When a man wants to be the caretaker of the home, the woman will have to consent to the be the breadwinner of the home. And of course, nowadays society where women have the same ambitions as men and are part of the workforce, many times because of need, the man will have to be part of the caretaker of the home and tasks will have to be shared. Who does the washing, who does the cooking etc. Or they would hire a housekeeper who will have the tasks of keeping the home duties. Thereby releasing the woman of those duties. That is the case in my marriage. My wife never had to worry about the domestic duties, but I never neglected my duties of being the breadwinner of the home. A marriage is a partnership and both partners need to agree on the way they will be together in harmony. If you love your spouse, you will do everything to make her/his life happy. What goes for me, may not go for you. Your wife may be the type that loves domestic work and is not career oriented at all. Doesn’t make her less than the one that is career oriented. But one thing I must say, when children are involved, we must keep them in mind when making those decision. Children may not talk, but they have feelings and can act on these things.

  9. From The Sideline, when ever I read your post I think you’re Hurst. Why not use your own name since you seem to know everything?

  10. Nicky is always looking for a spotlight moment. It seems to me some people don’t understand what a press conference is, ask questions to get answers and then you can push whatever narrative from the answer. She always coming to the press conferences like she wants to have a debate. There are so many ways you can ask questions to find out about the maintenance of the buildings because I would like to know too and so many of us out here have questions but all 100,000 cant ask the questions, however talking about the buildings and what going on in the building is just pure crap but you see people have on their blinders red and blue ones and so they only see through those colors. Good lord!

    • I guess you say it better than me. But it boils down to the same thing. She doesn’t understand what a press briefing is. She wants to make it about her.

  11. People don’t you think Lionel is too old to be still working?
You don’t think it’s time for him to give a younger person a chance?
Is he gonna keel over on the job?
Take a good look at him?
    He’s old?
    We all getting a older?
It’s a part of living, but they comes a time when you say RETIRE!! Omg 😲

    • Is Biden too old to be president? Is Trump too old to be president?
How stupid can your questions be?
You think people should be written off because of their age?

  12. HURST WAS 100% CORRECT.

    USE QUICK SHORT DIRECT QUESTIONS.

    NO DEBATE OR SPEECHES….

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE WANNA BE JOURNALIST. LET YOUR WORK SPEAK FOR ITSELF.

IF SHE WANTS TO BE HEARD CALL IN ON THE RADIO. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

    HURST RIGHT THIS TIME ONLY.

  13. Look what gets you’ll rattled, a woman asking a politician questions..bwoi you’ll must be some old miserable farts 🤣😂🤣.

No wonder the young people of Antigua are not listening. Time for some fresh ideas please!!!
