Hurst says concerns about missing hurricane relief funds should be addressed to the FSRC not PM

The government holds the Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC) accountable for the recent issues involving British philanthropist Jack Stroll and the Global Bank of Commerce.

The FSRC has remained silent on the matter for about three weeks. Stroll’s charity sent $1 million to the bank for hurricane relief in Barbuda, but the funds are unaccounted for.

Clients are having difficulty withdrawing funds, raising concerns about the bank’s stability. Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s government, aware of the situation beforehand, denies responsibility, directing inquiries to the FSRC.

Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst asserts the FSRC, as the regulatory authority, should address the matter, emphasizing no wrongdoing in the fund transfer.

The FSRC faces the challenge of proving its ability to handle the ongoing issues with the Global Bank of Commerce.

The bank is led by CEO Brian Stuart-Young, with Paul Ashe serving as Chief Regulatory Officer.

  1. Well I never!

Lionel Hurst defending Prime Minister Gaston Browne against being transparent about the “missing” $1 million hurricane relief fund; and foisting the blame on the FSRC.

Who would have thought, however, I could be wrong 😉

  2. Oh, they’re trying to weasel out of this one like a fox caught red handed in the hen house.
Max Hurst and Gaston Browne are not credible. They wouldn’t shut up, but I believe nothing these idiots utter.
Was GBC in problems 7 years ago? Why would any sensible individual instruct funds to be deposited there knowing this? These people just lie, lie, lie.
The fact is, they never expected questions to be asked of their shady stewardship. What about the US $500,000? Did that get lost in GBC to?
The outrage must never be silenced until every penny or supply is given a full account of. Ms . Govia, what happened to the two containers? Corruption, collusion, compromise with all kinds of people involved.
This country is just rotten. We truly need a cleansing.

  3. Lie-onel throwing FSRC under the bus when we all know that the FSRC have had their hands tied preventing them from acting against the bank. Now that the politicians have blamed the FSRC and literally thrown them under the bus, FSRC should have no fear and act to place the bank in receivership as soon as possible.

  4. Max Hurst: LINOHEL,could you tell we the people.Who directed the donor to funnel the money through Global Bank of Commerce. There are reputable on shore Banks in Antigua. Those Banks are all regulated.Off Shore Banks for most part are unregulated. That is why they are deemed to be OFF SHORE.THEY ARE USUALLY USED TO WASH DIRTY LAUNDRY LIKE LAUNDROMATS.

  5. Hurst is what my grandmother call an educated FOOL. He must think that the only people he’s speaking to is the minions who can see the forest but for the trees.
1 the money was wired to the Government
2 Gaston Clown already lied and said the funds didn’t make it because of corresponding banks
3 if you wire money and there’s a issue it goes back to the sender
4 since the money was wired to Antigua and Barbuda government and they didn’t receive it like the liar claims how come the government isn’t going after the Global bank like farm lands

  6. Anyone that speaks after the fact, is simply just lying.

Lie lie lie lie lie…all damn lies and trying to cover up the fact that the money was stolen.

These teefing people gonna sink Antigua to backside, just watch.

Get rid of this man please a tell yah.. he’s a con artist like Hitler.

  7. You are absolutely correct @ Time will tell. What you mention, especially in Point 3 is fact.

I myself have had a wire transfer returned to me (after some panic, I may add) in the past that wasn’t processed properly; and after chasing the processing bank, it was rightly refunded to my bank account.

So either Lionel Hurst or Gaston Browne (or both) is being economical with the truth – however, I could be wrong 😁

Popcorn 🍿, bullfoot 🥣 soup and beers🍻 at the ready …

  8. We will put this on the long and ever growing list of enquires when Antigua people get smart and help us to kick out Gaston and ABLP.

    • @Zackie…here’s hoping, that these inquiries which NUST be broadcast/streamed LIVE, as in #Real_Level, beyond, the #next_level.
Of all the Public Inquiries, or Court cases brought against those #who’re charged with managing the Nation’s affairs, from George Walters to Vere Bird, Jnr(Bloom Cooper was a colossal waste of public funds) to Medical Benefits to IHI to recent retirement of the Magistrate, what good have public inquiries done for the Nation?
We have been hearing and seeing these accusations, of malfeasance, bribery, insider trading, mismanagement of funds; again, since, the ALP split in the late 1960’s, and besides Sir George and the accountant, no other paid a fine nor did jail time. Humphrey’s got pardoned.

While the John Ashe Saga and the RA Stanford Saga may have had their ‘motive’ for their crimes hatched in Antigua, it was outside law enforcement, that caused their demise.

      Now, the question(s) begs…

(i)…..why wait until the PM or any public servant leaves office or retire, to use the powers, of the Courts, like the Barbudans are doing, to at least, slow and possibly halt the GASTON_N_Pixie Kru Runawsy train?

(ii)….the Opposition is packed with legal beagles, even KC’s, put them to use, or the money ain’t right, so, there’s no #pro_bono work(s) for the down trodden and righteous ones? The UPP can get International help from numerous agencies, just like the BARBUDANS are doing, as they’ve taken their fights to the highest Court, the Privy Council.
Besides, these BARBUDA CASES, in the Courts, have any cases being filed on behalf of any individual in the UPP or even, a faction, let’s say a Constituency which has been neglected, and the reasons are obvious. Where are they, filed on #placards at the #RUM_SHAP FAMILY COURT?

@Zackie, there are many of us, just like you who wants #TRANSPARENCY in GOVERNMENT for BETTER GOVERNANCE of Our resources.
Cases are solved much easier, when the accusations. evidences, motive are fresh, witnesses are still alive and are in a position where they still have access to vital information.

Pompey did a piece, on the DPP of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. It’s a very interesting read, and hopefully, what the DPP over there is doing in St. Kitts is successful and will find its way to Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA.

Use the COURTS now! Waiting until they’re out of office, has not worked for Our Nation!

  9. Tut, tut, tut!
Here it goes again; throwing somebody under the bus!
All I know is that the man who blames others has a long way in his journey to go as a man.
The man who blames himself is halfway there.
But the man who blames Noone is already arrived
