Homeless man Kenny Gage faces arson charges for allegedly burning down a structure at North and Popeshead Street on December 10.
Despite a swift response from St. John’s Fire Brigade at 5:45 pm, the building was already engulfed.
Antigua and Barbuda fire officials are concerned about intentional fires in abandoned structures, suspecting vagrants.
Gage, seen as one of the culprits, has been arrested and remanded in prison until his committal hearing on February 22.

This case will be swiftly dropped if it is the Kenny Gage that everyone knows. If my memory serves me correctly he has a diagnosed mental illness and should be receiving treatment for same. Was he getting treatment at the time the allegation was made? Last I heard of him he was admitted at Clarevue some years ago.
Locking up the homeless man is like putting a plaster on a sore without treating the sore itself. Homelessness is on the rise in Antigua and the number of them roaming all over the place have risen significantly in recent times. The growing number really illustrates how rampant mental health illness is in our population. The streets have literally become the country’s de facto mental institution.
