Hollywood Movies In The Caribbean

0

There are locations and settings all around the globe that are used by Hollywood filmmakers, but how many of them are as idyllic as the Caribbean? Those creating movies have to fit the script to where the action is going to play out, but it’s highly unlikely anyone will turn down the chance to film in such a glorious region, as proven by the list of great Caribbean-based flicks below.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Of course, there have been movies set in the Caribbean for years, and many came up before the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise became a thing, but when it did, it breathed new life into all things Caribbean. There have been five instalments from the franchise between 2003 and 2017, with Johnny Depp’s role as Captain Jack Sparrow iconic, as stories of pirates sailing around the Caribbean came to the fore. We mentioned how Pirates of the Caribbean was beneficial for the Caribbean and the genre, but it was for the whole pirate idea, too, with many TV shows and even pirate-themed online slot games at all the best casinos are becoming hugely popular.

Marley

One of the most well-known countries in the Caribbean is, of course, Jamaica. And arguably, the most famous person ever to come out of Jamaica is the late Bob Marley. So, a 2012 movie that centres on Marley’s life and achievements is a great fit. Marley, who was also renowned for being one of the pioneers of the reggae genre of music, is brought to life in this film by Kevin McDonald, with archival footage of tours and performances, interviews with those who knew him, and even video captured from Marley’s days spent in Jamaica adding a real authenticity to proceedings.

Countryman

We’re staying in Jamaica for the next mention on our list, and this time it’s the 1982 hit movie Countryman. The reason for its inclusion but also why it’s such a highly-rated watch is that it’s a film that documents the true uniqueness of the country. The story revolves around a fisherman who encounters a couple of American plane crash survivors. And from there, the fisherman, who is Countryman, teaches the duo everything they need to know about surviving in the jungle. But, in somewhat of an unexpected twist, a political situation arises due to Countryman’s actions.

The Tamarind Seed

Unlike the other movies on this list to take place in the Caribbean, The Tamarind Seed, which hit screens in 1974, is a film all about drama and romance. The movie actually plays out during the Cold War era, with a British woman falling in love with a man from the Soviet Union. But, as the pair show an interest in each other and begin to move closer, intelligence services are keeping watch from afar, with the belief that all is not as it seems. The working assumption is that there is a spy involved and that action must be taken swiftly as a result.
