His Majesty’s Prison to Become Antigua and Barbuda Correctional Facility

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams announced during his throne speech yesterday that His Majesty’s Prison will be renamed the Antigua and Barbuda Correctional Facility. This change reflects the government’s commitment to emphasizing rehabilitation over punishment within the justice system.

“The renaming marks a shift in focus, signaling a more progressive approach to correctional services,” Sir Rodney said. The updated designation aligns with plans to enhance rehabilitation programs and provide inmates with the skills needed to reintegrate into society as productive citizens.

The government’s strategy includes comprehensive updates to the Police and Prison Acts, as well as the introduction of modern facilities and programs aimed at supporting rehabilitation. These measures are part of a broader effort to create a correctional system that prioritizes education, vocational training, and mental health services.

Sir Rodney highlighted the reopening of the Boys Training School as a pivotal initiative in addressing youth rehabilitation. This facility will equip young offenders with practical skills and guidance to facilitate their transition back into the community.

Additionally, plans for the establishment of a new mental health facility at Sea Farm underscore the government’s recognition of the link between mental health and crime. The administration is working to modernize mental health legislation to provide better support for vulnerable individuals.

“These efforts demonstrate a comprehensive approach to public safety, blending enforcement with opportunities for rehabilitation and support,” Sir Rodney remarked. The government’s investments in correctional facilities and rehabilitation programs aim to reduce recidivism and foster a safer society.

  1. The crooked politicians want to make sure that they begin to add their penthouse suites for them to live in once they begin to be convicted for their crimes against the state.

  2. That is the dumbest lie ever. It could be called her his majesty correction facility.

My point is not that they are focused on corrections but instead focusing on moving away from the kind being head of state.

Frankly, local politicians are so incompetent, dishonest and selfish that any disconnect we have with the international world and developed country scares me to death. They are heartless folks in ABLP, literally evil and selfish. As a leader no matter what, you go above and beyond for each person and everyone together. Just like as a citizen, I must go above and beyond for the nation.

ABLP has never done this and you will be more abused and abandoned if the king and international communities are not available to monitor, supervise and motivated the idiots we have as leaders now.

  3. My I make another suggestion to the PM and the Attorney General. Construct a separate instituation in which to house less hardened criminals. People who are sentence to do less than a year for non violent crimes. A facility such that doesn’t need heavy security. It’s more about having your freedom taken away. If we could find room for all those Barbudan’s in such a short time, we could find a property that could be purposed for that in short time. Inmates will have much privacy. Don’t need to wear jail clothing and perhaps we could introduce the ankle band that we brought in during Covid for monitoring. We can even give some in there last three months of incarceratio a weekend free at home. These things were done in minimal security prisons in europe for prisinors with none violent crimes not to come in touch with hardened criminals. Just look at the prison Martha Stewart was send to.

  4. You can call it whatever you want, but if the residents are still loving on them conditions does it make a difference ?

More is needed… What about A NEW and MODERN facility!?!

  5. Yes more and more is needed, but it’s not going to happen from this inept greedy a administration, certainly not anytime soon.

They came into office in the most lucrative time in Antigua’s history, right after the recovery of the American economy, where President Obama Bailed out wall street, so Americans were flocking to the Caribbean and spending huge amounts of money, businesses were building hotels and other investments everywhere, and where is all that tax money gone?

And again..COVID came and the same thing happened..money started flowing again like sand very shortly after the shut down of COVID, where millions flock to the shores of the Caribbean to get a repreave from the lockdown. So where is all that money? If anything the government should have a good amount of money piled up, because no one was open except for the hospitals and clinics. Many government workers had to stay home and shelter in place. School weee half full, the Airport was empty.

So where is All that money Gatson? Ten years of economic growth as you so eloquently brag about, but nothing much to show for it.

No road improvement, no prison reform, no hospital refurbishing, the police stations are inadequate to house criminals much less the officers…nothing nothing nothing, but yet still your rich and high like a kite with money.

    Make is make sense please.

Again the most lucrative economy in Antigua’s history in the 10 years you have been there, even you yourself have bragged about it many a times, so where is the Money Gatson?

And if people are doing so well as you said, working and been provided jobs, then their should be millions in the Treasury no?
But yet still social security is not being paid on time, why?

Only one conclusion to all this big talking, and is that y’all teef de people tax money.

Oh yes I forgot that some went to your 14% raise..how nice of you.
