…High wind advisory in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands… Locations to be affected: Especially exposed coastal waters and elevated and open terrains, on the windward side of the islands.
Timing: Until this afternoon. Synopsis: Strong gusty winds, due to the tightened pressure gradient, are occurring. The direct wind threat level is generally minimal to life, livelihood, property and infrastructure; notwithstanding, these winds could make some outdoor activities uncomfortable, if not outright dangerous.
More near gales and gale-force gusts of 35 to 45 mph and possibly higher can be expected and can affect your balance so it’s advisable to avoid exposed elevated areas or getting too close to precarious positions like cliff edges in these conditions. High winds could create dangerous falling or blowing objects. A high wind advisory means strong sustained winds in the range of 40 to 48 km/h (25 to 31 mph, 22 to 27 knots) with higher gusts imminent or occurring.
Wind: East-northeast at 28 to 44 km/h (15 to 24 knots; 17 to 28 mph) or near gale at times, with strong gale-force gusts to 68 km/h (37 knots; 43 mph).
Potential impacts: Includes injuries; very hazardous seas; soil erosion; localized disruptions of some businesses; disruptionsto outdoor and sporting activities; disruptions of transportation (air and especially sea); vehicular accidents and financial losses.
Caution: Residents should secure loose, light outdoor items, which can be blown away, and caution should be taken when driving. Further, you should avoid exposed elevated places.
