The High Court has urgently blocked the reopening of Galloway’s 8 Ball Sports Bar in Paynters Development due to claims by residents that it violates restrictive covenants, causing concerns about noise, littering, and parking.

Bar owner Kwame Galloway is prohibited from reopening following neighbor complaints.

Social Security, the original lot vendors, were involved in the legal action, but neighbors argue the bar breaches a neighborhood activity clause, potentially leading to crime.

Galloway denies claims, citing no police-reported noise issues.

Justice Rene Williams issued an interim injunction until further court orders or case resolution, following Galloway’s unsuccessful attempt to discharge restrictive covenants in 2023.

  1. But when the people in brownes avenue protested the noise complaint from the other bar no one cared huh. I hate inconsiderate business owners

    • I think the difference is that of the Restrictive Covenant. However, I COMPLETELY agree with you that the residents of Brown’s Avenue should have gotten a better resolve to the issue there.

I find it very disturbing and distressing that you work hard to set up a place to rest, and the you have a persons come and put down next to you whatever they want. This NEEDS to stop!

    • I think it has to do with the existing covenant on the land. Properties surrounding the bar in Browne’s Avenue may not have any restrictive covenants in place.

    • I think the people of Browne’s Avenue had to go all the way to the Attorney General to get some reprieve. Didn’t that bar evenutally get shut down too?

It bothers me when one business owner decides to just corrupt people entire neighborhood and the Authorities are silent.

  2. Bars and night clubs should in zoned localities outside of residential areas.
That should be a simple point blank clause in the books. Just the ethics and logistics would cover that. No need for any argument or dispute.

Designate locations outside of residential areas for these NOISE polluters among many other societal ills; to operate. Their patrons will find them wherever they are located and continue to destroy their own lives anyway.

Too many of these bars/night clubs are popping out all over. In many cases the cops are shareholders and thus ignore complaints by residents about noise, litter and other associated evils.

In many instances these establishments operate WITHOUT anY LIQUOR LICENSE WHATSOEVER.

But we live in a comedy playpen nation where the laws are ignored by the top ranks to the common people. Corruption rules the day.

But wait nah: The end soon come man. We will ALL give account. Soon and VERY SOON .

  3. Finally. People standing up for their peace and safety and not allowing this type of nonsense to continue unchecked in Antigua.

Where are the zoning laws and common sense?

First time I heard of this place and realized where it was I knew it didn’t make no sense. How can you have a bar in the middle of a residential neighborhood with houses and families all around you? Dirty music, large crowds, drunk people, late night movements – recipe for disaster. Take them things downtown or in some open area like Jack Idle.

That could’ve never even opened if it was my neighborhood.

  4. Good. Lock dem down judge. Whats the point in having covenants and rules if anybody can do what they feel like and disturb the peace?

Time and place for everything. Right now gunman on the prowl and crime going up.

It probably wouldn’t last anyways cause Antigua people fickle and always like the hot new thing for a little while. But good to see Neighbors coming together to stand up to inconsiderate business owners.

Next up is the one up in Pigotts by the Airport fence on Burma Road. Let’s see how much longer before those neighbors get tired of all the noise, people and cars swarming in nightly.

  5. I’m all in support of entrepreneurs and small business – but wrong is wrong. No bar supposed to keep next to where ppl sleep.

Hope the bar owner can find a more appropriate location for his customers.
