Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, today announced that the President of Harvard University, Dr. Lawrence Bacow, has responded to his advocacy for a programme of cooperation between Harvard University and the Five Islands Campus of the University of the West Indies in Antigua.

The Prime Minister said that Dr. Bacow has indicated the willingness of Harvard to work out cooperation arrangements that would benefit the Five Islands Campus, in acknowledgment of Harvard University’s historical relationship with slavery, particularly confronting past injustices and their legacies.

The Harvard Law school was founded on an endowment in 1815 that was funded from slavery on the Royall’s plantation on Antigua.

Preliminary discussions to establish a framework for cooperation will be held in January after the University’s break for the Christmas Season.

Prime Minister Browne welcomed President Bacow’s readiness to engage and stated that between now and the preliminary meeting in January, practical proposals for cooperation will be prepared”.

  1. Hon. Gaston Browne I would like to extend my heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS on this remarkable step that you have taken and the favourable response from the President of Harvard University. This shows that our Prime Minister is a FORWARD Thinker and take INITIATIVES that others believe that would never happen. This decision will put all the NASAYERS to lick Their WOUNDS. I am now waiting to see how the Observer Gang report this POSITIVE outcome. Mr . Prime Minister never think of retiring . Antigua and Barbuda needs you . Once again CONGRATULATIONS.

  2. And what do you guys who always like to cry down the PM have to say now
Guess this will keep you all silent for a while

  3. Listening to The Snakepit tonight . Serpent , Knight and Gladys Potter did not mention anything about what Harvard University to comply to our Prime Minister letter. What this tells me that These People DO NOT care about Antigua and Barbuda. They DO NOT say anything good about Antigua . Knight, Serpent , Gladys Potter are a BUNCH of HYPOCRITES. Antiguans would Never let the UPP into office again. AWFUL

  4. Finally Harvard is doing the right thing, thank you! Hopefully UWI-Antigua and Harvard can have a joint degree program only offered at UWI-Antigua. There are so many great opportunities on this.

  5. Another great step for Antigua. The pm initiates the move and it has comfort. Congratulations to a new era in education in (L.A)little Antigua… Here’s to our children’s Children!

  6. Keep it moving PM Browne. It must be hard work. Just keep your books straight….
Leroy King, RA Stanford are not smiling now.

    Tek Time, Walk Fast!

  7. It’s a lonely thing to be a leader. The hosts on The Snake pit were looking for a way to decry everything the PM does even when he wrote to Harvard. Well, you always fail until you don’t and when you all see the benefits of the PM’s actions benefiting Antiguans I’m sure you all are going to take out a magnifying glass to find something else to say. Congrats, PM. That is leadership.

  8. Congratulations to government and the people of Antigua and Barbuda. The voice of the people have answered. Since this Harvard University situation had come to light, I have read a lot comments online that the people were advising the PM to seek for scholarships instead of money.

  9. The following is list of Positives that Hon. Gaston Browne and His Administration have done for Antigua but opposed by The UPP ,SERPENT , KNIGHT , CEON ATHILL et al.

    The University
    Global Ports
    Several Hotels
Lots of Construction AND Many More.
All of the above were opposed by the names mentioned above. Antigua is on the move.
What a POOR showing for DEMONSTRATION today. When the UPP,THE MOVEMENT AND SO CALLED FAITHFUL NATIONALS will learn that NO ONE in Antigua support Them. SAD SAD BUNCH OF PEOPLE. Many of Their Executives were NOT DEMONSTRATING today.
I did not one youth amongst the 50 DEMONSTRATORS TODAY

  10. What a BIG BIG DISGRACE listening to Knight and Damani Tabor this evening December 12 2019.
Who will really vote for Damani Tabor and the UPP. Too many positive things happening under the Gaston Browne Administration that Damani Tabor agree and Knight disagree with all the investments happening in Antigua. It is a SHAME to listen to Damani and Knight.
