“I learned with pain the great damage caused by the strong winds in Jérémie …I gave instructions to the Primature so that all arrangements are made to rescue the families as quickly as possible. Sympathy,” Moise wrote on his Twitter account.

The Communal Committees of the Directorate of Civil Protection (CCDPC) said it is carrying out an assessment of the situation after the strong winds, which started late on Friday night, did not result in any death.

The CCDPC said so far there has been a significant loss in the agricultural sector in several communes, at least 10 houses flooded, nine houses destroyed in Dame Marie and a 100 houses destroyed in the district of Fond Rouge.

Meanwhile, Haiti’s Unite Hydro Meteorologique (UHM) is warning of heavy rains in several areas throughout the country and is urging residents to take precautions, especially those living in areas at high risk of floods and landslides.
