Grieving Mother Calls for Justice One Year After Teen’s Murder
Antigua and Barbuda – Almost one year after the body of 16-year-old Yennefer Bridge was discovered along Victory Drive, her mother, Ulisa, is still seeking justice, raising troubling questions about the response to gender-based violence and systemic barriers faced by vulnerable communities.
Yennefer, a student at Jennings Secondary School and mother to a young child, was reportedly in an abusive relationship with a significantly older man.
According to her mother, the teenager was hospitalized multiple times due to injuries sustained in the relationship. Despite efforts to involve law enforcement, no one has been arrested in connection with her death.
Ulisa, who migrated from the Dominican Republic over a decade ago, said s that her attempts to report the abuse were met with indifference.
She alleges that language barriers contributed to the inaction.
“They told me they didn’t understand my English,” she recalled.
The teen was found dead in May 2024. Her two-year-old son was discovered wandering alone along Jonas Road hours later and taken into protective care.
He now lives with his father. Ulisa says she is working toward gaining legal custody of her grandson.
“She was innocent. She trusted people,” she said, adding that the family remains in the dark about the progress of the investigation.
“Many people know what happened, but no one is saying anything.”
The case has reignited concerns about the protection of young women and girls, especially those from immigrant backgrounds, and the adequacy of support services for victims of domestic abuse.
No recent updates have been issued by police. The investigation remains open.

My skin shivers at her saying he said he’s going to kill her. Why hasn’t this boyfriend or ex boyfriend been arrested and charged?
The piece of shit police dem
So you’re saying that the boyfriend told you he will kill your daughter. When you told police they say they retarded Aka can’t understand your language? What the hell did I just listen to? WHAT?????. NO WAY!!!
Keep up the good work Antiguanewsroom
This is still a very emotional ordeal for the family
What’s is the status of the Scotland yard investigators and forensic specialist?
Somebody definitely know something and yet will say nothing. Wicked people
Soooo much to unpack from this mother’s ordeal but a few things have stayed with me
1. Amid the deep loss and grief is the fact that she was robbed of seeing her child grow up
2. It’s imperative that the system does more to protect victims of gender based violence
3. And truth be told, there are simply too many unsolved murders and cases of missing persons in Antigua.
This is scary.
When will enough be enough?
Ask constable Mazda. Cuz If nobody will say I will. Is high time they got scotland yard to investigate this matter it because all the police does is cover up shit so they don’t look bad.
Sloppy work on the part of investigators……or is it a cover-up since the boyfriend is much older than the deceased and even had a child with her when she was only approximately 14 years old? Why are sexual crimes and violence against women and girls taken so lightly in this patriarchal society? And the nerve of the police to say they did not understand the mother nor anyone else she brought forth!!! You failed this mother and you are responsible for her child’s death. Had you the police done something-anything- to help this mother her child would still be alive. Some of you police officers are arrogant and lack compassion and you think because you wear the uniform you can be cocky and treat people like shit. The officer(s) who told this mother that nonsense needs to be disciplined and that boyfriend needs to be thoroughly investigated. NONSENSE!!!
Masterpiece, congrats guys
An excellent new piece from Antiguanewsroom Thank you very much
Don’t worry, gaston loves immigrants, this is what you’ll voted for
My heart breaks for this mother. No parent should go through this. SMH
One whole year and still no justice? That cyan right.
The pain in her voice… you can tell this wound is still fresh.
Imagine raising yuh child all dem years, and somebody tek dem just so.
This is why families lose faith in the justice system.
Justice delayed is justice denied—she deserve answers!
Shitty justice system
This sounds like a movie. Let me get some things straight. So you’re telling me that your daughter left for classes at Jennings secondary and you find out she is changing her cloths and going be with this man and them what…you allow her. You didn’t take action. Chain her ass to the house. You didn’t get welfare and police for the man. You allowed him to get her pregnant. Move in with him. He was abusing her and you and a MOTHER just played dumb? Don’t blame police. Blame your blasted self woman!
And no counciling or anything is afforded to the grieving mother..she is just left to fight for herself and justice for her child.
The hurt is real people, it is.
Some children will reach early demise because some parents fail to be parents. This story made me cry. I have my reasons. My mother never allowed me to go out at 14. I remember being upset but guess what…she had her reason. What the hell you being out with man in house having sex at 13 and 14. No mommy. Sorry but you killed your kid. RIP Yen.
I am sorry for this beautiful soul who didn’t get a chance to even become a woman. The Hispanic community will never forget you. In Antigua they treat the Hispanic community like we don’t matter and like only bad can come from us but we are loving people who help build this community. We want justice for Yenifer
When I listened to this story I did not know whether I should laugh or cry…live or die. I knew Yenifer. She was a friend of my daughter. She had her issues but somebody dropped the ball with her. She didn’t have to die this way if proper care was taken of her. Sleep on Yen. Your son is in God’s hands he will take care of her. Justice is also in God’s hands. He will repay the evil that was done to you
This story serves as a reminder to parents that they cannot have their girls living in house with a man at the age of 14 and 15. How is that even possible. I understand why this mother feels guilty. It’s because she is. She failed her daughter. The mother has 7 children. She was too busy popping babies and neglected poor Yenifer. Lady you failed your daughter. If a child ends up being pregnant at 14 heads would roll. Yet you sit there like as If it was nothing. I’m truly angry
Keep up the good work Antiguanewsroom

Regrettably, a big part of the problem that we face is that we always wait until something very drastic happens before we raise an alarm. The financial rewards for us far exceeds any safety and security concerns. Women & girls need to recognize the patterns in these abusive relationships and seek help before it is too late. Early in the relationship, these abusive partners may seem attentive, generous & protective but later on the attention becomes controlling and scary. It is sad that one year later, justice has not been served and no one has been held to account for this gruesome murder.

Seriously Antiguanewsroom should have called the police during this interview and have this woman arrested for neglect of her teenage daughter. I looked at Yenifer and she looks like a baby. Had a baby at 14. The little girl was living a rough life while her mother placed more children ok the earth to see misery. What kind of slackness is this?
As a father, I’m truly disappointed and frustrated to see this situation unfold in little Antigua and Barbuda. It’s heartbreaking to witness someone expose such personal struggles to the media instead of finding a more constructive way to address them. She clearly failed that little girl. And she has 6 or 7 I cant remember. With that kind of unstable life how can you even raise your dead daughters son? A child having a child is a heavy burden, and it’s clear that there are deeper issues at play. Instead of taking responsibility, it feels like there’s a tendency to shift blame. You need to blame yourself lady.
behind every child’s disappearance is his mother, the mother who allowed him to open the door and leave without saying goodbye, the mother who allowed him to live in such a way that he hid some of his thoughts, the mother who did not interfere in his problems by force because he did not allow it. yes, I agree that we mothers raise our children from the first minutes of their lives, wishing them only happiness.. and yes, I agree that parenting mistakes such as interference or non-interference can have a bad effect on the lives of our children… but telling a mother that it was you who killed your daughter is the same as pushing her into the abyss.
You can’t beat this, you just can’t beat this all this information and no arrest not even questioning, nothing narda? Makes a person wonder, no?
If the abuser and the people in higher places good … nothing at all go happen
Before we can sit here and criticize this poor woman, we should seek a deeper understanding. You have no idea what she went through. You can see on the look on her face that she herself is a young person. It could be a generational curse. This is a tragedy. My mind is on this little boy. Why cant we say a prayer for this family instead of casting blame.
At the risk of sounding uncaring, I must say to the Mom, take a number and wait in line! You grief is understandable and shared and merits the same level of sympathy and concern as that extended to the mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings, partners, aunts, uncles, god-parents, children, cousins, best friends of the many Antiguans who have been murdered or are missing and presumed dead especially within recent times. Judging from the feedback cleaned through the various responses, it is clear that the Antiguan environment has become toxic and deadly as we continue to dilute the true/authentic Antiguan nature and character. Our police force is and has been overrun by “foreigners” mainly Vincentians. Our workforce is now open to all and sundry ( and NOT from the ranks of quality genetics either). So really, the comments, observations and worse of all our appalling recommendations are, regrettably, a true reflection of what we have allowed ourselves to become Heaven help us all!
