Former Police Commissioner Calls Teen Murder Case ‘Solvable’, Slams Investigative Failures
Former Commissioner of Police Rawlston Pompey has delivered a scathing critique of the police investigation into the death of 16-year-old Yennefer Bridge, describing the case as “solvable” and citing what he calls “gross neglect of duty” by senior officers.
Bridge’s body was found near FigTree Drive in June 2024, and nearly a year later, no one has been arrested.
Her toddler son was reportedly discovered wandering near Jonas Road shortly after her death.
Pompey, speaking on ANR as a former investigator and prosecutor, blamed the failure to solve the case on what he described as “professional inefficiency and incompetence” within the police force.
“This is not a mystery,” he said in a strongly worded statement.
“This is a clear case of a non-mystery death that has gone unsolved because of poor management, inaction, and investigative failures.”
Pompey pointed to specific leadership he holds responsible, naming former Commissioner Atlee Rodney, Deputy Commissioner Clifton Cabral—who heads the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)—and the Serious Crime Unit, which he described as “pathetically mismanaged.”
He also referred to a key entry in the police diary at the All Saints Police Station dated June 28, 2024, which he claims provides critical information about the case.
According to Pompey, a police constable—now studying law overseas—reported discovering the child during a midnight drive with his brother along Jonas Road.
Pompey said the constable saw movement in roadside bushes, stopped the vehicle, and found the boy—barely two years old—who was unable to speak.
They took the child to the All Saints Police Station, fulfilling their duty to protect life, he noted.
However, he expressed grave concern over a report that, while transporting the child to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, the constable’s civilian brother allegedly diverted the vehicle onto American Road and “disappeared.”
“From a criminal investigative standpoint, that’s deeply suspicious,” Pompey said.
“There is reasonable ground to suspect that the diversion may have been intended to clean or conceal evidence.”
Calling for a full and independent investigation, Pompey said the public deserves accountability.
“What the hell is going on? Investigate thoroughly. Punish those responsible for gross neglect of duty,” he concluded.
Police have not publicly responded to Pompey’s statements, and no new details have been released regarding the progress of the investigation.

If that’s what he thinks, then why don’t he help them solve it or do it all on his own???? Don’t be a Monday Morning Quarterback
“Victory Drive” anna Fig tree Drive dem find she??
Who am I to add anything more to what Pompey had to say.
I will add that the constable wo found the baby has bionic vision.
Shat was he doing on that road at that hour?
Where was he coming from?
Why did his brother not follow him to the hospital?
When he was taken home from the hospital why did he immediately jump into his vehicle and drive off with his brother?
Was his motor car ever checked forensically?
Do we have an officer trained to perform lie detectors?
Was she ever engaged in this case?
Hey Mr Pompey..I’m very sorry, but I do not have any faith in this current administration to solve anything, much less the many missing cases and murders in Antigua, none!
Though I applaud your efforts to call out this inept administration, I am sad to say that solving crimes has never being their strong suit. For whatever reason, this Government are more focus on UPP business than finding justice for the most vulnerable amongst us.
Isn’t the same thing they did with Manny, cover-up the blatant corruption in that case? All now the Asot case is not even solve, and we don’t even know the motive behind that case.
These cases are straight forward cases, but this administration cannot get anything right. I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if Chantel Murderer walk free, the same way that dude that killed that Canadian trainer who walked free as well.
This police force and justice system are lazy and grossly under trained in forensic, so they rely on criminals pleading guilty, other than that, most of these cases will go unsolved.
Sad sad. And these are the same people talking about it’s time to break away from the Privy Council. Yea right. Incompetence and corruption at its best.
We have the wrong leader in government folks, and that’s a fact. All they talk about is money making and UPP UPP, that’s it,they don’t care about y’all.

We ALL want justice, but let me ask a question. No cases were unsolveable when Pompey was there? Asking for my damn self. Too much hypocrites in this place. How conveniently we forget! Anyways…….
Agree with Pompey this case is solvable, the question is; do they want to?
All the cases are solvable but these so called investigators do more drama than investigate, they are clueless to what theyre doing and the criminal elements know this, and thats why crime is getting out of control, criminal know they will get locked up then release
Where is Superman Gaston on this one? Could it be because this will not Top Up his credibility?
Que Paso? Que Paso Papi?
I am happy to see that a former top cop and one that I have great admiration and respected for was bold enough to stick his head out on the block by saying and admitting that the police is NOT doing enough to solve crimes in Antigua and Barbuda. That is really a damming admission. But it is not just the fault of the police force. The police is as good as its leadership and management and those who guides and controls the direction of the force. Sweet talk alone cannot help the police. In this technological era, the police need adequate resources to properly undertake their tasks. All the police departments nationwide have changed – for the worst. The entire police force is in need of urgent reform in order to restore and resolve many of the internal issues that now confront them, including very low morale and less than proper working conditions. Over the past 10 years or so, we have witnessed the exodus of some resolute, tough and tenacious crime fighters – hard unshakeable and uncompromising policemen and women, most of whom have been irreplaceable in terms of drive, power, impact and work ethics. It’s no wonder things are the way they are.

Sometimes, Pompey doesn’t realize that his opinion against law enforcement can further compromise the respect that the public has for the police.
Hec seems to know a lot about a lot of things, with all due respect to him, yet while he served in his capacity, there were many unsolved crimes in the country.
Through he’s entitled to his opinion, it would be more effective if he chose to volunteer his unsolicited advice to the current CID. I’m sure that they would welcome his intervention.
He’s portraying himself as the Scotland Yard of Antigua and Barbuda but only in didactic articles.
As the saying goes, “too many cooks can sometimes spoil the soup ”
There are crimes in first world countries that have many leads yet they remain unsolved.
Antigua is not unique.
I would suggest that he work directly with law enforcement in his retirement and write less articles which only upset the public.
I watch alot of 48hours episodes and for many of those cases I have said to myself if those crimes were committed in Antigua they would not get solved….
Mr Pompey
Let your next article be about the female police officer that they claim took her own life.
