Government Urges Full Public Cooperation in 2026 National Census

The government is calling on all residents to fully participate in the 2026 national census, stressing that accurate data is essential for shaping future policy decisions. Governor General Sir Rodney Williams issued the appeal Thursday during the Throne Speech at the opening of Parliament.

Sir Rodney emphasized that the census will guide planning across key national sectors. “Many policy decisions hinge on the accurate reporting of the enumerators who will come knocking on your doors,” he said, urging households to provide complete and truthful information.

He also assured the public that their details will be protected. “Absolute confidentiality and anonymity is guaranteed,” he said, noting that enumerators will carry official identification so residents can verify their authenticity.

The Governor General said cooperation is vital to ensure the final dataset “accurately reflect[s] the conditions in our beloved Antigua and Barbuda,” particularly as the country enters a new phase of development focused on infrastructure, education, social protection and economic planning.

Census fieldwork is expected to begin next year, with public education efforts to be rolled out ahead of the nationwide count.
