Government to Begin Road Repairs Using $100 Million Local Loan
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed that roadworks will begin within weeks as the government starts drawing down on a $100 million loan from local banks.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne show, the finance minister said the Jennings New Extension road to Hermitage will be among the first repaired.
“We are about to draw down on the loan, and I am sure that from the first installment, that road will be one of the first we address,” he stated.
The loan will be repaid through increased vehicle licensing fees, with proceeds channelled into a dedicated road fund.
Browne also said the project will prioritise local contractors to support jobs and build national capacity in road construction.

Meh hear dem say ‘weeks’ before. Let’s see if weeks mean 2025 or 2026 dis time.
I walk dem roads every day. Hope we see action and not just campaign noise.
A road fix-up would help mi shocks and mi passengers. Mi back can’t tek no more!
We need accountability. Every dollar from that loan must be tracked.
UPP propose proper road management years ago. Now ABLP playing catch-up with borrowed money.
Better roads mean better delivery times for mi business. Long overdue investment!
Hope dey do it right and consider drainage and not just slap on tar.
Mi tire buss last week cause of dem pothole. If this fix it, then loan make sense.
We cry for years and now finally we get notice. We watching, so mek sure it get done right.
Bout time! That Jennings road been mash up for years now. Glad to see something happening at last.
So wait, we borrowing more money again? Hope this time we actually see the roads fix and not just more talk.
Is there a well marked out plan on how the works will be done????????
Is there a plan on which areas and roads will receive priority attentiom????????
Will the works be used as a politican campaingn tool to make weak candidates appear to be in the drivers seat???????
Will roads be repaired or will sugar cake be the remedy and result in more cavities??????
Will the nation receive quarterly or half yearly reports on the amount of money collected and proper accounting of its expenditure????????
Will we get better records than we got in the Cutie / spread sheet of the Alfa Nero expenditure????????
In the fixing, I hope proper planning was done. I drove through Pottes this morning on the road that they JUST pave, and I observed a section on the western side that is caving already, I’m guessing from vehicles driving on it.
Also, Me ah beg that you PLEASE do ALL SAINT ROAD!!!!!!
For consideration, Factory road from the Round-a-Bout BY Sprugu Gas station all the way to Harney Motors NEEDS to be redone properly. Also please hit Herberts Road, as that is a complete nightmare
Why are they building the roads without the most important infrastructure which is drainage, look at the drain in that picture you cant tell me that is up to standards
Ayo! Watch them just slap on tar! Lmao pocket the cutbacks! As always 😂
It’s not being done properly, they just put a thick layer of tar with inadequate drainage and no sidewalks, it’s a cash grab and they pocketing some
Upper Tanner Street look like shit
Read between the lines. Hotel big up yourself. Follow the money. lol. We commute on all saints road for years. To and from work more than that road why isn’t all saints road the first one to benefit. Wake up ppl.
