The Government has decided to clarify the holiday law, pertaining to double pay for work on holidays, by making it clear that Sundays are not to be treated like a holiday.
The Government says that at the next session of Parliament, the amendment to the law will take place in order to avoid any ambiguity.
Those who work on a Sunday will be unable to confuse Sundays with holidays.
There are 14 bank holidays in any one calendar year thus Sundays are not holidays for the purpose of determining pay.

  1. Sunday, the worship day for Christians is NOT a “holiday”. Neither is Saturday, the day for Adventists and Jews, and neigther is Friday, the worship days for Moslems.

  2. Does that mean that Stores and other business places that are presently closed on Sundays, will be opened on Sundays now.?

  3. The practice however is that if you are asked to work on a Sunday and it is not a normal scheduled workday for you or a Saturday for that matter you receive pay at time and a half on Saturday and double time on Sunday. If it is a scheduled work day like in the Hotel Industry then those days are just regular pay.

  4. Thank you, “From The Sideline”… that is what the report should have said, instead of leaving us even more confused.

  5. This is a good decision by the government, I support it.

A lot of weirdo people try to rip off companies and government agencies by saying that they deserve double-pay on Sunday when it is their normal shift duty just because it is a ‘legal’ holiday on the books.

Finally we have a government that is correcting these weird laws that our on our books. We need to correct all the small laws on the books to make sure they fully accurate.

    • I believed that they should look at all the laws on the book and make changes where it is needed. Some of these laws are old and outdated and do not apply to the twenty-first-century. Every 10 years or less, there should be a committee assigned to look over these laws and see what would apply in today’s time.

  6. I have a question. Are there holidays that fall on a Sunday in Some years.. and if so does that mean if the holiday fall on a sunday the employee should not benefit the holiday pay out. ?.
