Information Minister Melford Nicholas says no decision has been taken to implement a national lock-down as 39 new covid-19 cases were confirmed yesterday.
The minister told a news conference yesterday that since the news of the new imported cases, he has been bombarded with questions about the possibility of a lock-down.
He said, “the cabinet would have discussed this matter and has taken no decision with regards to shutdown of the country.”
Nicholas said, “we believe the protocols that are in place are sufficient to lead to this kind of capture. what we can say is that more resources are on the way.”
In an earlier interview, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said he would shutdown the country if there is evidence of community spread.
18 of the 39 new cases are returning nationals – who entered Antigua by air over the last few days.
These nationals are now quarantined and isolated at the Government facility at Hawksbill hotel and will not be released into the community until they test negative.
None of these persons have been hospitalized.
Presently, there is no one hospitalized in Antigua & Barbuda with COVID, and none of the new cases require hospitalization.

How would Antigua history remember these modern day 39ers?
Thank you because during the last shut down many business people suffered greatly. Even now some business cannot reopened and a lot of us lost customers. People need to follow the guidelines wear their mask, wash hands and sanatize. We can get through this but we all must play a part.
How many cases you need for a shutdown? 50…100..500..1000
coming soon at this speed
Are you working for the government Mike? If so then your salary will be paid next week. So of us don’t have that privilage. A lock down will kill off a lot of small businesses and we not getting no assaitance from the government.
What the government need to do now is to implement that all travelers inbound national or guest.Have themselves tested before they board the flight.Make sure they have a copy., and still when they get to Antigua still put them to quarantine.Enough is enough.
Simple agreeded 100% but someone needs to tell the government that!! I hear children saying that should be apart of their protocol ….. but me Anna the prime minister me fooly
Politicians will always be politicians, even with.peoples lives at risk
The effects of shutting down far exceeds a few people dying! Sad to say! We need to know how to live with this virus! People who call for shut down have food to eat, what about the ones who don’t have! Stop being selfish you fat pigs!
