The Public Utilities Ministry says it has made a major step toward increasing the production of potable water, through a partnership with US-based Seven Seas Water Group.
Portfolio Minister, Hon. Melford Nicholas says the APUA is approaching the final stages of preparing the site for the installation of an additional plant at the Ffyes Beach Reverse Osmosis Plant.
This will result in the doubling of daily production at the facility to two million imperial gallons of water.
This is expected to result in a sea change for residents in the south of Antigua, eliminating the challenges of intermittent supply between Jennings and Old Road.
Regarding the second plant under the Seven Seas deal earmarked for the Ivan Rodrigues Plant at Barnacle Point, the Ministry says construction is set to commence in the first quarter of next year.
The Government has signed a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer agreement with Seven Seas, under which the company will offset the costs for the installation of the units, operate them for a 12-year period, and then transfer them to the APUA’s ownership.

Good.
Now, APUA need a clear maintenance plan that is executed from Day 1 – and that is checked regularly by responsible Minister – or in 12-years, Antigua will have 2 worn out plants needing major replacement parts, overhaul and potentially malfunction more often than produce water.
Next, when will APUA/govt. do the massive island-wide water pipe replacement project that has been oft talked about around election times.
Without modern pipework, some houses/communities, will not see an improvement in their supply of clean, potable water.
Can a CIP special project fund this?
😒the water truck owners are not happy about this, they’re making a killing from the lack of constant running water. .
Every situation we are in is clearly created by these ALP politicians, and when we cry they come with the solution, and you know.its an enrichment scheme, we have our own sea port and what we did, gave it to some shady European company to have security over the port so drugs can be shipped on cruise ship instead a go fast boat because the USA coast guard are on the sea, the Apua has a piece of land on airport road right beside furniture gallery, they sold it to a syrian , then make arrangements to pay rent to the syrian for a high voltage underground cable beneath the said land, and at that rate APUA will be giving back the syrian the money he paid for the land every 2 years, and now the water plant we own it, and APUA will have a company manage it and we pay them, have you ever thought of moving out of your own house then ask a stranger to rent you it and you pay them monthly, crazy stuff like this happen in government of Gaston, create the crisis then monetized the solutions. Tax payers will feel.
Well highlighted @ Planning Ahead 👌🏽
Hope they putting in plans to maintain it. Those membranes not cheap. We’ve been here before
