Government Rejects Pan Association Demands For 100k

The Cabinet says it was informed that the Pan Association submitted a letter demanding payment of $100,000 to it almost immediately.

It also wants to guarantee arrangements that will allow bands to play on a stage with no rooftops on the night of the competition.

“While the Cabinet agrees that arrangements can be made to allow the bands to play without rooftops, the delivery of $100,000 cannot be achieved,” a statement said.

The demand for that large sum of money, the Cabinet concluded, is excessive and clearly is beyond the Festivals Commission’s ability to provide.

The Cabinet, therefore, refused one of the Pan Association’s demand.

  4. I guess everyone wants to hold this government hostage for one thing or the other. Guess they have notice it does pay off.

  5. It is time to do a white paper on the economic cost of Carnival. No more talk about how important Carnival is etc. etc etc. It is simply not affordable and year after year artists and contractors cannot be paid. If we really look at it, the only shows that we need to sponsor with tax payers money is the kiddy’s Carnival and Jr. Calypso and in fact everything that has to do with the youth. Everything else need to be privatized or a Private Public Partnership. meaning government will provide some subsidy if they open their books to show how much money they made. They will get the Recreation Ground for Free and Perhaps the Stage. No Prize money. That they will have to look for sponsors themselves. They can either keep all the gate proceeds or share with the government at agreed ratio. So the Pan Association can organize their own event and take full control of it. The calypso Association can take full control of their event and so the list goes on. The will get all the assistant from the government in the first year to ensure they are a success. They have to be out their looking for good sponsors, who will put their money where their mouth is. Just like sponsoring the sport events or sport clubs or like sponsoring CWI. Government should just sit back and give as many incentives as they can. But we should not be so much out of pocket any longer. It just makes no sense. Not Financial Sense, Not Economic Sense and not Cultural Sense. Stop the Madness. I guess we have already starting this with Drew’s Day.

    • And I believe a company like Kennedy’s will run for this big time. Supported by their beer brands and other liquors. No wonder Distillery want to be a big sponsor this year. They have to promote they brands. Cavalier and English Habour Rum
