An employee of the Ministry of Works is hospitalized at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre with multiple burns from an accidental explosion at Burma Quarry.
Director Alden Crump confirmed that the explosion occurred while attempting to remove stored explosive materials.
The injuries, including burns on the face and body, are not life-threatening.
Crump expressed concern about the department’s frequent accidents, urging assistance from Health and Safety Units to devise prevention methods.
Recent incidents involved a worker trapped on a conveyor belt and another receiving an electrical shock.
While no fatalities have occurred, the increasing frequency of mishaps is worrisome.
Crump is seeking an update on the injured worker’s condition.
The employee’s identity remains undisclosed.
