Government programme to teach prisoners to read and write

4

It was revealed this week that the Cabinet has agreed to commence a program in Her Majesty’s Prison intended to build literacy among inmates.

The Judges and Magistrates have noted that many of the youth confined to prison by them are unable to read and write effectively according to the government.

The literacy challenge may be a significant contributor to anti-social behaviour, members of the judiciary believe.

“That being the case, the Cabinet will set-aside both human and financial resources to address the challenge within the prison,” according to the government.

  1. I think we will benefit more if we teach the ministers not to try and enriched them self…..up to now we cant get the details on the E BOOKS SCANDAL AND THE MONET THAT WAS DONATED TO LIBERTA SCHOOL AND NO ACCOUNT TO THIS DAY

  2. Always heard the Elders say “a stitch in time saves nine”. So would it not make sense to invest in remedial English and arithmetic in the schools to address the problem before it becomes this big problem? In fact how about an innovative curriculum of remedial english and arithmetic, life skills, civics, vocational skills and physical education. If this was offered early to at risk youth we may not have so many in the prison.

  3. A because the judge nd dem know tht the youths them can’t read to overstand certain laws nd legislation why they continue to send the youths dem to prison guilty or innocent nd all when the evidence nd facts of the case shows doubt of guilt, wrecking any chances of them to become reformed or rehabilitated, then send them back into society as a criminal with a record to look work etc. Then being refused employment nd a chance to uplift themselves frm being brought down to the lowest form nd standard nd having nowhere/nobody to turn to but more problem.. Judges, Law Enforcement nd our judicial system overall need to be revised nd reconstructed before attempting to contain a problem tht they themselves should be taking some of the credit of attributing on our society nd native, nd now want to make it seem like they’re concerned.. One day even the judges will be judged.. #IJS
