Public Safety Minister the Hon. Steadroy Benjamin says establishing a new prison facility will be a priority for his ministry for 2020.
Benjamin informed that the initial process has started which involved looking into the architecture of the facility.
“We looked at the designs and we will be attending to that as a matter of urgency this year,” said Benjamin.
Benjamin also disclosed that he is unable to give specific dates but he confirmed that it would happen in 2020.
“How soon I would not be able to tell you but definitely will be happening next year,” said Benjamin

The government should have the Chinese construct the new prison facility. I know that they can finish it in no time. The Chinese will work around the clock to have it done in months and cheap labor to. They need to construct two (2) facilities one for a jail to hold accused on remand, and a prison for convicted criminals. Both accused and convicted should never in the same facility.
I hope the new prison will be served properly and accommodate some of our politicians who deserve to be there
