The government  has announced that it will set up an Economic Recovery Committee (ERC) to look into the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the country’s finances and plan the way forward.

According to Chief of staff Lionel Hurst,  the committee will be chaired by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, and is expected to draw upon the expertise of persons outside the Cabinet.

It was noted that seven sub-committees, each chaired by a Minister of Government, will be set up and include representatives from a variety of institutions.

These include the Chamber of Commerce; the Antigua & Barbuda Workers Union; The Employers Federation; the Antigua Christian Council; the Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association; the Bankers Association; and the Leader of the Opposition.

Hurst says the first meeting of the committee is expected to be convened virtually next Monday, April 27.

  1. Things were bleek before covid, things are bleek during covid, so when all the world is economically broken, the chamber of commerce and the powers that be can talk away. Talk is cheap but Zoom takes money. Its time for action.

  2. All those who support this prime minister with his irresponsible behavior over the years will soon see him for what he is. All for his rich friends and family.

All he can do is give you’ll food package for a week. The hard times haven’t come yet.

I do wish him some success, because he still is the leader of this country and we all must work together to survive as hard as this will be to do.

Antigua people, wake up, your children future is at stake with the leaders we choose

  3. It is a very good idea setting up the Economic Recovery Committee.I have one huge concern. Why do the sub-committees have to be headed by Ministers of Government? I would say most of those Ministers are not forward and or critical thinkers.

  4. Where did these Clowns go to school, Clown college? Ask your PM to borrow some money from Fernandez. Another great negotiating Clown.
