The government of Antigua and Barbuda has been absorbing part of the impact of rising global fuel prices in an effort to limit increases in the cost of living, Prime Minister Gaston Browne says.
Chief Executive Officer of the West Indies Oil Company (WIOC), Gregory Georges, confirmed that a recent fuel shipment arrived at significantly higher prices, with the steepest increases affecting diesel and jet fuel as global energy markets tighten.
Speaking on his weekend radio programme, Browne said higher fuel costs typically drive up transportation, groceries and other imported goods. He noted, however, that gasoline in Antigua and Barbuda has remained at $14.25 per imperial gallon, with prices kept stable by reducing the amount of consumption tax collected on fuel.
“We have decided to take less taxes to maintain stability in the pricing,” Browne said, adding that the government also absorbed losses during previous global price spikes, including those linked to the war in Ukraine.
While he said the government intends to continue cushioning consumers, Browne warned that sustained global disruptions could eventually force price adjustments.

Right after the election, the price will shoot up and WILL NEVER come back foam
Some how I feel that we are paying a high price for fuel already so you cannot afford to raise it … the master of illusion… you can fool some of the people some of the times but not all of the people some of the times ….
The Tribe, you hit the nail on it’s head. Election gimmick. The barrel of oil was in the sixties, and our price never goes down at the pump. Remember politicians and their siblings have a lot of shares in WIOC. People wake up !
Gaston, you are a pathological liar.
When did the new shipment arrive?
What was the cost of fuel before that new shipment?
What was the OECS agreed arrangement in relation to tazes on fuel?
At the price on the pump which has been there for a decade What was the cost of a barrel of oil?
Isn’t there a fixed price mechanism which should be inplace which your government is not recognizing? If the price is based on world market price what doesn’t our prices dip when oil is cheap on the world market?
Why does out prices only rise?
If you were to increase the price what would it be?
You see Gaston, you are not cushioning the price. The gas price is still above what it shoukd be per barrel.
Yet we have been paying that for a decade.
You have conveniently kept the gas price high to maximize your taxes.
So now the price is higher you would be most unconscionable person to place an additional tax burden on the people.
@ The Tribe
And they are lying. They have never absorbed any increase in fuel, and it’s only because of the ‘BUY ELECTION’ why it’s being done now, and also for the soon expected general elections.
These people will do ANYTHING TO STAY in power, but right after the elections I can assure you that the prices will be adjusted back upwards.
That will be just for a few weeks till after the election. Time you people realize this man is the Ultimate CHARLATAN. St. Philip’s North don’t be fooled
After the bi-election, I mean buy election you people will understand who this guy really is. Nobody matters to him and Antiguans just fail to recognize it. What a set of dumb people. St. Philip’s North chase Gaston and Baltimore and liberate the Constituency
The Government has been ripping the people off with the prices for fuel.So do not come now trying to sell it as giving us a reward at this time.By Friday, the prices would b e going upwards.
RALLYING CALL #20
Of course Gaston Browne is going to absorb rising fuel costs before the St Phillip’s North by-election, but once the votes have been concluded – win or lose – he’ll puff-up the price.
Constituents of SPN please do not fall these slick tricks from someone who plays this political game better than most in the Caribbean region.
We need you to show the courage of your convictions on the 16th of March and vote for change.
Remember you have the power to do so 🗳

These is much being said, but where is the media coverage to point out the discrepancy, misinformation, distortions.
Commentators are seen as just disgruntled individuals.
Ealier the Government at there is sufficient cooking gas. I that still the case?
Barbudans! Please get out your coal pots. Can’t depend on these people. Be self sufficient, while they go begging abroad.
For years, these crooks were getting prices at almost half price from the corrupt Maduro regime, and the fuel prices were still extraordinarily high in Antigua for years and years, and was even going up at various points, so don’t be fooled by this slick tongue swindler folks.
I’ve laid out on here many times before..they were making a killing off those cheap oil prices for years as share holders of WIOC, and that’s why prices are always high in Antigua.
GB and the PM from Dominca are two of the biggest benefactors of those cheap prices over the years, and that’s why they got rich rich so quickly. Insider trading and privilege information are afforded to GB first as finance minister..the man is a crook. If he lived in the US, his arse would have been already investigated for corruption and conflict of interest for his central position in these private investments.
Again, the FBI didn’t just randomly detained and searched the CEO of that same WIOC!
Trust and believe the FBI got some big time information from that investigation, and thats why GB was calling up the CEO to find out what they asked him.. 😂..this man is a crook.
You notice you haven’t heard anything about that situation out of GB mouth anymore!
Think people, think
. 😂
The three months supply is used up so fast or what?
