The CYW International team expressed concerns to the media over a breach of confidentiality that led to their business proposal being leaked.
Consisting of Canadian women of Antiguan descent, the team had been working on a project to build a crematorium in Antigua and Barbuda to address the strain on public cemeteries running out of space.
Despite the government’s prior intention to support the construction, local funeral homes initially interested in assisting withdrew due to high costs.
The team’s business plan was leaked, compromising the project’s integrity and exposing sensitive information meant for the government.
This breach eroded the team’s trust and confidence in executing the initiative.
They also cited frustration with ineffective communication from the government, which frequently rejected their proposals through the media, leaving the team uncertain about the project’s future.

Two obvious reasons: ONE…… Nothing can happen without people just CHAT TOO MUCH. TWO…… Someone in govt HAD TO BE looking thier cut as usual….. Beautiful project that could have benefitted the nation, gone to the dogs like every other project that comes here. Aryou nuh weary mash up tings????
Agreed and another reason would be it’s not beneficial to the government nor funeral homes ….
Don’t worry, ladies.
You project will resurface with a new name, perhaps owned by a member of the ruling team, or one of their cronies?
Watch this space.
Ooh, you ain’t ever lied!
I approve this message.
This allegation, reminds me of Perry and his CABLE TELEVISION PROJECT which was eventually brought to fruition by Vere Bird, Jnr, partnering with Mike Simon and the Jew.
It also reminds me, of the many AGRICULTURAL PROPOSALS presented by the RASTAFARI COMMUNITY(yes, some may not have been formatted, in a way which business proposals and plans are drafted, but that was the easy part); yet, today, #FARMER BROWNE is showcasing and being braggadocios about his organic farm.
Ladies, hold tight! Soon and very soon, your project will be implemented in Antigua. You Company just won’t be managing or owing the CREAMATORIUM.

Hmmmmmm! Let’s see!! Is this another stolen project idea??
It’s tragic that a project that is so worthwhile to the country ends up this way. We seem to be stuck in our lamentations and willing to blame each other. Why are not professional in our dealings with these opportunities? We are in the year 2024 and we should be in a position to handle matters professionally and whatever is deemed to be confidential should stay confidential. The days for “meley and demeley” must end my peoples.
Antigua Newsroom please verify your facts before printing. It is called RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM. Where did you get information from to support your claim that “local funeral homes initially interested in assisting withdrew due to high costs?” Interested in assisting with what exactly?
Ladies your proposal will be like a car an owner cannot make payments on, repossessed, re-sold and re-driven. The fact that confidential and sensitive information was leaked speaks volumes.
The funeral industry is a billion-dollar industry and the founder of the first crematorium in A&B with no local competition in sight with future prospectors given the legal run around to establish one, the owner/owners of such a business will definitely be wealthy for generations to come.
@Sharon Patriot Lycorish
Someone who they trust should have cautioned these young businesswoman.
There are dozens of 2nd and 3rd generation of Antigua and Barbudans abroad with great business ideas that would serve the country well.
They have been warned to stay away and the Nepo babies and entrenched families want to keep it that way.
Back in the day, my project was handed over to Vere Bird jr. and CLICO as his partner, by Lester Bird
The more things change the more they remain the same.
Be ready to make others your partners, or grease the right palms to enhance the Creative Enrichment Program
Frankly, I saw this coming.
Any Government with integrity would work hard to make it happen for these businesswomen; by getting in touch with them and work it all out.
The GOAB will now issue a self serving statement, and move on with these businesswomen startup concepts in their hands for a crematorium in Antigua; and have no guilty feelings about it.
@Ras Smood
With the number of projects stolen under the Birds; this current administration with its Creative Enrichment Scheme make The Birds look like amateur, when it comes to malfeasance.
@CountryMan Abroad…ah wah a guarne? Hope ebree ting Irie!
I, don’t doubt the fact, as to what you’re saying regarding the Birds Administrations versus the Browne Administration, of the ABLP.
I was approached by one Mr. Hughes, several years ago, when several of us had formed an [informal] think tank through email correspondence(s). As he stated to me then, “give me your proposal, and I’ll take it to Parliament.”
What he didn’t know, I was very much aware, of the Games Played by those in the purported upper echelon, of our Culture when it came to submitting proposals to the Government, as an investor.
I think, that it’s time for these NGO’s, the likes of the Chamber of Commerce and these National Associations in the diaspora, to demand, that the practice of #CHECK_U_MINISTER, before establishing a business in Antigua, Barbuda or REDONDA and all other islands within these Nautical miles which comprise Our Nation, be eliminated.
I’m quite sure, that you’re familiar with the term “Red Lining.” Most of these gentrified areas of many inner cities which such things as Red Lining systematically destroyed, have not only changed their policies, the new life which is breathed into these re gentrified areas is more conducive to all. Yes, there are those who are complaining of being displaced but, these are the ones who’ll sit around and complain rather than make an attempt, to be the change which they’d like to see.
The system in Our Nation MUST be set up in such a way, that only your financiers(banks to philanthropies to grant funders) who should demand, that your entire business plan be submitted to them.
Once your business is established, this is when, your company will engage the government to garner any incestives, perks, etc, based upon the type of investment(s), the company is making. This will go a long way, in eliminating, the #CHECK_U_MINISTER policy before you do business.

Their not Chinese.
And in the next couple of years or so, this project will re-emerge through cronyism, nepotism, favouritism or some other governmental ism schism.
My business is now up and coming, only because I informed very close friends and family.
People with more money than you will tief your GOOD business ideas and then run with it.
A lesson for the future young ladies ..
*up and running*
I don’t see the problem with plans being announced or whether they get leaked, if they pull out ah dem. Doesn’t mean there will be crematoriums popping up in every village. Open up another West Indian restaurant like everyone else.
This is how we treat our own people of our complexion who are trying to do something right for the country. I will not be surprised if a Syrian, Chinese or Muzungu with money set up a crematorium and many of you support them. Hatred towards people of your own skin colour is true shame, while you embrace those who have no love for you or your ancestors. Black people always embrace their oppressors and show hatred to their own.
@lionman what you say na mek sense taal. How did anybody treat them bad ? Because the plan got announced before the official intention, that na mean you have to just withdraw from the project because it got announced early. The fact that they are pulling out leaves the market open for somebody to now fill it. Gone make it a black thing because of that ? You sound like a very bitter person. They probably realized this was a huge waste of effort being that they wouldn’t make no money split 3 ways.
