As part of the celebrations to mark the 175th Anniversary of the Anglican Diocese of the Northeastern Caribbean and Aruba, Governor General Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams hosted a welcome reception for the Diocesan Bishop, clergy and other distinguished guests at Government House on Thursday.

In his welcome remarks, the Governor General shared that the history of Government House is aligned very closely with that of the St. John’s Anglican Cathedral which was reopened earlier on Thursday.

Sir Rodney reminded the gathering that the two architectural gems share the same city of St. John’s, celebrating a simultaneous anniversary and house the seat of authority for the State and the Anglican Diocese of the Northeastern Caribbean and Aruba respectively. He encouraged all to support the restoration of both properties which are considered national treasures and commend all who have made meaningful contributions to the projects to date.

In commenting on the theme of the week of activities, ‘Celebrating our Heritage, Seizing the Moment, Embracing the Future’, the Governor General shared that it actively acknowledges the present and anticipates a hopeful future.

Sir Rodney also notes from the writings of the Diocesan Bishop, the Right Reverend Errol Brooks, that the expected outcome or legacy of this year of celebration have been encapsulated and billed as “The five Marks of Mission which are to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God; to teach, baptize and nurture new believers; to respond to human need by loving service; to transform unjust structures in society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation; to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth.

The Diocesan celebrations ended on Sunday August 27, 2017 with a national Anglican Service at the St. John’s Cathedral.
