NHC – The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Gert, located over the central subtropical Atlantic, and on recently downgraded Tropical Depression Katia, located over the eastern subtropical Atlantic.

In the central tropical Atlantic, a tropical wave southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is exhibiting signs of organization, with showers and thunderstorms.

Environmental conditions favor further development, and it’s expected to become a tropical depression in the next two to three days.

Additionally, late-week strengthening is likely as it moves westward to west-northwestward across the central and western tropical Atlantic.

Formation chances are at 60 percent over 48 hours and a high 90 percent over seven days.

In the eastern tropical Atlantic, a tropical wave is poised to emerge from the African coast.

While it heads west-northwestward at approximately 15 mph through the eastern tropical Atlantic, there’s limited potential for slow development, particularly midweek.

Formation chances stand at nearly 0 percent over 48 hours and 30 percent over seven days.
