This matter was reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) by a 911 operator, after the offence occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on February 19.

The man allegedly was robbed of his Rolex watch by the two perpetrators, who also assaulted him during the offence.

Reports say the 48-year-old German citizen, a crew member on board the Mein Schiff 4 cruise ship, had to be treated at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for injuries he sustained during the robbery.

Reports say the visitor was walking along the Fort James road when two unknown men attacked him.

One of them allegedly struck him in the head with a black handgun until he fell to the ground.

The other assailant kicked him in the stomach and tried to pull the visitor’s bag away.

However, the man held onto his bag tightly, and, as a result, one of the men pulled his watch from his wrist, and the two then fled the scene.

The victim reportedly was injured to his head, right elbow, and both knees and was transported to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

A search was carried out in the surrounding areas for the alleged offenders and the stolen watch, which the Police were able to recover further down the road from where the robbery occurred.

Inquiries into this incident are continuing.

  1. I say it again, what the bloody hell is going on in Antigua!!! Keep it up and no one will come to visit and you have no one but yourselves to blame. I won’t be back and I’ve said that over and over.

  2. Well seems we have a new Non-Tourist attraction. No idea why they keep coming here cause no one seems to care.

  3. Last paragraph got me baffled. Are these tourist for real? Walking alone on Fort road sporting a Rolex, man I travel to the UK, Canada and USA, where walking around with my jewelry is a big no no and all my jewelry put together not even close to Rolex. Back to that paragraph why go through all that trouble, got a Rolex then dumped it down the road? You have a gun, you pistol whipped and beat him, two against one and still couldn’t get his bag? Real amateurs.
Like this the new thing now tourist robbery and assault, our main industry but this will never stop tourist especially the white man from coming to our shores. This is paradise, this is where they let loose especially during cricket, the shit they do here they will never do back home. I do hope this don’t have a political feeder in the background.

You think the opposition is like the terrorist ALP opposition of the early 1970’s?

You are so insipid- AND STUPID IF U ASK ME: DAM BIG FOOL

  4. Tourism is our bread and butter. Once these criminals starting to mess with out bread and butter we need to nip it in the bud. No jokes with this at all. Please Mr. Minister, spend the money to ensure our tourist are safe. We cannot have a situation where Antigua becomes like Jamaica and the USA start to put a warning out on our security. we need special Tourism Officers equipped with proper communication equipment and when they see a tourist strolling of into areas that they should not be going in, they should warn them and ask them to change course. Without wanting to sound prejudice, but when I see tourist coming from the cruise ship and walking straight into Grays Farm I wonder if they know where they are heading to. We need tourism officers to alert them that it may not be safe for them.

  5. I agree with Carvaa. Come to the island sporting your goods and pay the price. You can’t flash your worth around and expect no one to notice. Leave them at home. And you aren’t wrong when you say people do things on vacation they wouldn’t do at home ! See it all the time sadly

  6. Sad to hear on this again, I pray his injuries are quickly healed and his mental state come back to normal.

Something needs to be done, someone must have seen these 2 criminals before rhe crime occurred and have known their faces.

Cameras need to be installed along the roadways of Fort and at the beach itself and other beaches. The security needs to be increased drastically.

  7. After soooo many robberies on Fort Jame’s main road.. .. you would thought Police would be patrolling the area’s daily for those visiting tourist and even our locals…NONSENSE

  8. Please investigate thoroughly!!! This incident is highly suspicious, armed gunmen rob a man of a rolex worth perhaps US$10000, leaves the man badly beaten holding on to his bag and then discards the rolex a short distance away..hmmmm.

  9. The man was not wrong for wearing his watch. Once upon a time (a few years ago) this sort of crime would never happen in Antigua. Tourists and locals used to walk any and everywhere during the day with no fear. Criminals knew better than to mess up the tourist industry or to hurt others. They only used to break into empty businesses late at night or occasionally someone would be robbed out and about in the wee hours of the morning. These wild criminals these days apparently don’t have any regard for the physical well-being of anyone other than themselves. Maybe it’s part of the fallout from the forced Covid vaccination era when young people were taught by society that you can do anything you want to other people to help yourself? Or, maybe the criminals are leftover African immigrants from the plane who don’t care about our island or it’s main industry? Or maybe the conspiracy theorists are right and there is a deliberate effort underway to destabilize countries and impoverish people and usher in Marshall law? Or, perhaps the education system, social services, churches, families and the community at large have failed in efforts to prepare the youth for adulthood so instead of participating in building up their communities they are tearing it down? Or perhaps a lot of people feel excluded from participating properly in society because everything is controlled by a minority of people who have no interest in developing things for the good of all; so some young people feel they have no options for upward mobility and have decided to live on the fringes with a lifestyle of crime and violence? Or perhaps they are all high and not thinking straight because marijuana was somewhat legalized and think that it’s the “black” thing to do to smoke it? I don’t know, but this is not normal and should not be treated as normal. Otherwise it will be the end of tourism, which is maybe fine, but things will get a lot worse before new industries are formed and they get better… hopefully someday.
