(Antigua News Room) The General Post Office will resume deliveries to the United States beginning Saturday.

That’s according to Acting Postmaster General Jacqueline Gordon, who said the service was interrupted when LIAT, which was facing liquidation, suspended its flights.

“LIAT was our sole airline that would carry our items from Antigua to Barbados, then from Barbados to the US ports”, Gordon told state media.

The Post Office has reportedly arranged with Caribbean Airlines to fly its mail to the US via Jamaica.

“One of the things that we are trying to work out, we have been working out with them, is to have an agreement, a service-level agreement between Antigua Post and Jamaica Post to have them airlift to the US”, Gordon explained.

Gordon explained mail coming into the country from the United States followed a separate arrangement and was not interrupted.

“As for inbound, the thing about it is that Amerijet, even during the lockdown of the airport, Amerijet has been coming every Thursday”, she said.

    • Yeah always having mechanic problems. The local cargo people here need to do like biz in the other islands and also utilize American airlines. Recall agents in SLU bringing in packages 5 days a week. Amerijet is a handicap

      • Ya they need to not put all their eggs in one Amerijet basket. I’m sure American Airlines would welcome the business.
