Gaston Browne praised for his leadership on LIAT

DNO: The current Caricom chairman, Roosevelt Skerritt, who is also the Prime Minister of Dominica, recently commended the Gaston Browne administration for their efforts in keeping LIAT operational. Prime Minister Skerritt expressed his appreciation while returning from the inaugural Saudi-Caricom Summit in an interview with ABS’s Garfield Burford.

“I want to commend Gaston Browne for holding the fort where LIAT is concerned. High commendation must be given to him…but it must require efforts from all of us”, Skerrit said

A few months ago, it seemed like Browne was going it alone at reviving LIAT, and not receiving support from other shareholder governments.

Skerrit admits that “this is where we went wrong with LIAT, too few of us were engaged in LIAT.”

“We have always said that if we allowed LIAT to go under, we would have a problem in the Caribbean and it is manifesting itself now…it is important for us to engage ourselves and play our part in financing a strategy,” he said

Skerrit admits that the venture would not be easy but he believes with the support from regional governments, LIAT 2020 will be successful.

“I believe there is a greater political will now, on the part of every government so it might be an opportune time for us to invest and find a longtime solution to air travel in the region,” he said

Skerrit also gave a resounding “yes” response to questions about whether Dominica will be investing financially in the new entity.

“Certainly, I believe Dominica is ready to play its part because this is crucial”, he added

The Antigua and Barbuda government took the initiative to appoint a court-appointed administrator to save LIAT from liquidation.

Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest private carrier has invested in LIAT 2020 to help get the airline back in operation.

In fact, LIAT 2020 and Air Peace have just inked a deal that grants the Nigerian airline a 75% stake in the new entity.

  1. But may I respectfully remind you that under Gaston Browne’s guidance, LIAT hasn’t got off the ground, or paid up former employees or given any dates for commencement.

IF THAT’S LEADERSHIP, I’M AN ESKIMO.

With due regards Mr Skerrit, haven’t you got more than enough on your plate with running Dominica? 🇩🇲

    • Very well spoken. Every day multiple villages have to go without electricity. Tell Mr skerrit fix his yard before he go pointing at others.

  2. From 70% to 75%. Good God, by the time the year is done, it will be at a %100.
So where would be the investment then?
The people needs to see the write up on this deal, for real.

  3. PRAISED FOR HIS NON-LEADERSHIP ON LIAT. LIAT,USED TO BE AN AIRLINE NOW IT HAS NOT A DAMN PLANE IN THE SKIES.ALL OF THOSE WHO BOOKED ON LIAT’S ONE PLANE WERE LEFT STRANDED TO FIND OTHER WAYS TO GET AROUND.THEN MAX FERNANDEZ DID SAY THE OTHER LIAT AIRCRAFT WOULD OUT OF SERVICE FOR ANOTHER 2 MONTHS.THOSE COMRADES DO HAVE A LOT OF BALLS,LIKE ROOSEVELT SKERRIT.

  4. From one questionable character to another. Let’s not forget the possible collusion in the Choksi kidnapping. Seaforth is just collecting big money monthly for doing nothing.
Anything that Gaston Browne touches turns to mud. Just look at his long list of failures.

  5. Send the fool a little further. Why doesn’t Skerritt put his money where his mouth is, instead of mocking the clown?

  6. It can’t get any worse … LIAT under Gaston has failed as a business and Skerrit considers that leadership worthy of being praised.
Clearly Antiguans and Barbudans are not the only ones in trouble

  7. Look the two henchsmaddy involved with Mehul Choksi’s kidnapping.

Story not done yet. Mehul coming for two a dem.

World powers watching both a dem.
