Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party Leader Gaston Browne says the party has grown in popularity since the last election.

The ABLP narrowly escaped defeat in the Jan. 18, 2023 election, winning nine seats. The United Progressive Party took six seats from the ABLP and retained their one seat from 2018.

Speaking on his radio station on Saturday, Browne said a lot of the issues that affected the ABLP going into the 2023 election have either been reduced or removed.

He listed these as:

  • Unemployment.
  • High cost of living.
  • High petroleum prices.
  • Bad roads.
  • Inconsistent water supply.

**Empirical Evidence Shows Labor Party’s Improvement, Prime Minister Asserts**

Prime Minister Gaston Browne emphasized the significant strides made by the Labor Party since the last general elections, countering claims of declining popularity. Browne cited empirical evidence supporting the party’s growth and increased strength, positioning it favorably for continued governance.

Browne addressed criticisms from opposition figures, including former Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, stating, “In fact, Jupiter, start to line them up Jack, because when I hear people like Baldwin Spencer, a failed prime minister, now trying to rewrite history and tell the people of Antigua and Barbuda that he has done so well, that we had such a wonderful term…”

He highlighted a period of robust economic growth, noting, “Under the rulership of Baldwin Spencer and Harold Lovell between 2009 and 2014, there was only one year of growth of about 2 or 3%. All the other years, you had an aggregate contraction of 25%…”

The Prime Minister acknowledged labor shortages, remarking, “There’s practically full employment in this country at this point here because, barring maybe some little pockets of unemployment for example, certainly for construction…”

Regarding current labor needs, Browne stated, “We may have to bring in about probably 30, 40 masons and another 30, 40 carpenters; otherwise, we cannot meet the demand for housing for people coming through National Construction alone…”

  4. HOW THE HELL THE ABLP HAS GROWN AND IS STRONGER WHEN IN FACT THEY LOST THE LAST ELECTION.
GASTON AND ABLP LOST THE LAST ELECTION.
HAVE U NOTICED THAT IT APPEARS AS IF AN ELECTION IS IMMENENT, MAYBE THE UPP CONVENTION HAVE THEM PANICKING. THERE HAS BEEN SO MANY PRONOUNCEMENTS RECENTLY.
They (the ABLP), LOST THE LAST ELECTION- THEY STOLE IT BY TRANSFERRING VOTERS BETWEEN THEIR STRONGHOLDS. WHAT A BUNCH OF FRAUDS.
IF YOU ARE SO CONFIDENT OF WINNING THEN CALL AN EARLY ELECTION.
I AM convinced with things being so bad that you guys might LOSE all 17 seats, including YOUR OWN- DO NOT DOUBT THAT THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE YOU DAWG.

  5. I remember the game as a yout’ called ‘Simon Says’ and recalling the times when you did an action or saying that wasn’t Simon’s.

In the last of months or so Antiguans have had to listen to the PM’S games of ‘Gaston Says’ without any evidence whatsoever to confirm his delinquent mutterings.

MIND YOU I’M ENJOYING THE GAMES 😁

  6. Let’s see.
Unemployment? Worst than ever. Produce data DAWG. No one believes your stupid lies.
Cost of Living? I paid $15 for a butter a few months ago. The same butter is now $26. Stinking dirty liar.
Roads? Naww. Water? Still unreliable. Gas prices? You just raised gas prices fool.
My God! This Risperdal taking idiot just won’t shut up. Pssst. Dawg? Everything has gotten WORST.
