Garbage collection services were disrupted across parts of the country on Wednesday after sanitation workers staged a walkout, citing poor treatment and a lack of benefits, according to ABS Television.

Roughly 60 employees from the landfill and garbage collection units of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) are involved in the action. The workers argue they are not receiving the same incentives and allowances as employees in other government departments, including Public Works.

They are also calling for the removal of General Manager Indira James-Henry, alleging that management has failed to adequately respond to their concerns.

The protest has interrupted regular waste collection, and discussions are now underway to resolve the dispute. ABS reported that James-Henry arrived on site and is currently in talks with the workers.

  1. People are tired of just more talk, they want action. Pay the damn people their money.

This government has the worst track record in paying people.
All these broken manifesto’s, but yet still these ABLP politicians are still out here promising voters everything but heaven itself.

Antigua is not yours ABLP, it belongs to the people..pay they people what they have worked for. My goodness me!

    How hard is that?

  2. Man them work hard, give them what belongs to them. Them doing their work not only keep the country clean but prevents illness from spreading and they take that risk on themselves. Send the lil ting

  3. Priorities gone mad! Significant labour disputes and funding conflicts regarding sanitation workers at a time when we find money for non essential things and to “buy votes.” While the government tries to win at any cost, many in some of the country’s essential services are bawling.
