Seventeen-year-old cricketer Vonde Bowers, who was fatally stabbed in Gray’s Farm on July 29, is being laid to rest today at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Valley Road, St John’s, with burial to follow.
Bowers, a student of Ottos Comprehensive School and a rising member of the national under-19 cricket team, died from multiple stab wounds after being discovered by passersby and taken to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
His death has triggered widespread grief and renewed calls for stronger youth protection. Hundreds attended a candlelight vigil in Gray’s Farm last month, where he was remembered for his talent, gentle spirit and dedication to cricket.
Police have charged a 16-year-old from Hatton with his murder. The Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association said it was deeply saddened by the loss of a player who had shown great promise.
