A woman from Cooks Hill is scheduled to appear before a High Court judge following allegations of cheque forgery.
Jahmalier Grant, aged 35, made an appearance at the St John’s Magistrate’s Court where she was informed that there is substantial evidence against her, warranting the transfer of her case to the higher court.
Grant is facing multiple charges, including three counts of obtaining, three counts of uttering, three counts of forgery, and one count of receiving.
According to the allegations, Grant, who works as a caregiver for the elderly, visited Twist Wholesale on lower Market Street and presented two cheques totaling $900 and $500.
Two days later, she returned with another cheque worth $900, which she also cashed at the store.
These incidents reportedly occurred in early September 2022.
It is claimed that the cheques used by Grant were taken from a stolen cheque book, which was obtained during a burglary at a couple’s residence in Freetown.
The break-in occurred while the homeowners were away from the island.
Along with the cheque book, other items such as keys and a certificate of citizenship were reportedly stolen during the incident.
