On Monday morning, April 24, workers at the General Post Office refused to enter the building due to a foul odor emanating from within.

As a result, they were sent home for the day.

The staff had been troubled by the stench for some time and had been calling on authorities to address the issue.

According to a source, the odor was reminiscent of feces and could be detected at certain intervals. In addition to this, employees complained about the smell of rat urine in the offices.

The General Post Office has been plagued by a number of issues over the years, including leaking roofs, flooding, mold, and other matters that have threatened the health of staff members.

Despite past protests by staff, the issues persist.

One source has suggested that the building be demolished and replaced with a new structure, or that the staff be relocated to other premises.

They argue that renovation work at the current location only covers up issues, with new problems arising later.

The workers received the support of their union, the Antigua Trades and Labour Union, who had a representative with them as they protested outside.

  1. I did hear that the building has mold inside. If so,that is not good for one’s health. Get it cleaned up Gaston Browne and Mold-wyn Joseph.

  2. With the constant condensation coming from the ducts of the air conditioning units, buildings need to be properly & regularly maintained to prevent the growth of molds & other other hazardous conditions for employees

    • There are tools available to clean all central air conditioned ducts. They are for solid and flexible a/c ducts. The Government should those in their tool boxes. LOL

  3. The post office is one of the pillars of revenue collection so why the kick of attention and up keep.
    Poor leadership?
Failure to follow up on maintenance issues?
No proper maintenance plan in place?
