Roughly 40 residents in Antigua & Barbuda have been selected to fill open positions at
Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa, following last month’s job fair.

The selected individuals have filled a range of key positions across several departments
to include Rooms, Food & Beverage and Front Office.

In mid-November, the resort held a job fair at its Dickenson Bay location which saw
some 600 individuals turning up and being screened, with shortlisted candidates making it
through to the interview and selection process.

“We are pleased to have these men and women on board,” General Manager of Sandals
Grande Antigua Resort & Spa Matthew Cornall said. “We are confident that they have the right skillset for the industry and for our brand.”

The new hires began the onboarding process with orientation sessions during the first
week of December. They are currently getting the requisite training for their specific
departments.

At last month’s job fair, the resort had announced that at least 60 positions needed to be
filled. It is anticipated that another job fair will be held in the near future to fill the additional positions and any others that may have become available.

Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa has been a major employer on the island since its
opening some 28 years ago with a current employment of over 700 persons.

        • 40 as you put it represents more than the usual yet over 600 attended. Is it then than our people are desperately seeking employment when we live in an economic powerhouse? Is it all a facade? Is it an ironic usage of the term powerhouse?

  1. Thats really sad 40/600 and had the nerve to put this over observer. This is nothing to be proud of cause it means that 560 people are still unemployed or looking for work

  2. In a real economic powerhouse the natural rate of unemployment hovers around 4%. In our case 40/600 means appx. 97 percent of that sub set alone is unemployed.

  3. I was about to comment on this post..but even wondering if worth it. I keep coming back to it to see the comments , shake my head and move on then come back.

Once I see what I need to see then I am sure I will comment in full. But for now Real feeling must not be uttered

  4. Yo ..The number of Haitians who do not have sufficient food to eat is expected to surpass four million next year, the UN humanitarian affairs office, OCHA, said.

In 2020, 4.6 million Haitians, about 40% of the total population, will require urgent humanitarian assistance in which over (57% of them are women and 45.5% are children.)

OCHA reports that deteriorating economic conditions this year—including low growth rate, high inflation and an increase in the cost of basic food items—have had a negative impact on the humanitarian situation in the Caribbean nation.

At the same time, insecurity and social tensions meant aid workers had limited access to a large part of the country.
As a result, the number of Haitians facing food insecurity rose to 3.7 million this year, up from 2.6 million in 2018.

IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT BAD>>YOU HAVE IT WAY BETTER THEN OTHERS!! IT COULD BE WORST!!
