A former police officer, Karim Warner, has been sentenced to one year in prison for discharging a firearm in a public place.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel, following Warner’s conviction for the incident, which occurred on 3 December 2022 near Emerald Cove Resort in Willikies.

Warner was found guilty of firing 12 rounds at a white Toyota Mark X that had two people inside. No injuries were reported.

The case has drawn attention due to Warner’s previous role in law enforcement and the potential dangers posed by the public discharge of firearms.

Magistrate Emanuel emphasised the seriousness of the offence, noting the risk to public safety.

  1. In life we just have to be very Careful as law enforcement officers, and and private firearms holder as well of how we fire our firearms in public places…

  2. That was a serious offence. He fired too many rounds because he cannot shoot. About 3 to 4 rounds could burst the tires. Now the driver had the vehicle without his permission according to the news from the court or his contract up. Will the driver pay for all the time he had the man vehicle without his consent ?
