Former Police Commissioner Criticises Report on Alleged Assassination Attempt

Former Police Commissioner Rawlston Pompey has criticised a report suggesting an attempt was made to assassinate political hopeful Wayne Marsh on Thursday night.

Pompey described the report as “suggestively reckless” and questioned its accuracy and the language used.

The report, published by a local news outlet, included claims by Marsh that the incident, which allegedly took place near the Empowerment Centre, was politically motivated.

However, Pompey raised concerns over the use of the term “assassination,” arguing that it lacked substantiation and could undermine the integrity of law enforcement investigations.

Pompey questioned the absence of verification from law enforcement in the article. He said the report appeared to rely solely on claims without seeking official input, which he believes is critical for maintaining public trust and investigative credibility.

“Where does ‘assassination’ come into the equation of a supporter of the United Progressive Party?” Pompey asked. He also highlighted the potential reputational harm that such claims could cause, particularly for individuals implicated without evidence.

Drawing on his experience in law enforcement, Pompey warned that careless use of language in reporting could inflame public sentiment and distort the truth.

He cited lyrics from calypso icon the Mighty Sparrow to illustrate the dangers of misusing powerful terms, likening it to people who “don’t know what to say” yet use “big and long” words inaccurately.

Pompey urged news outlets to be more responsible in their reporting and to prioritise accuracy, especially when addressing serious allegations such as politically motivated violence.

The claims made by Marsh remain unverified, with law enforcement yet to confirm the details of the alleged incident.

  1. This Guy Marsh is trying to be relevant. You don’t have a chance in winning St. Paul’s. Throw in your towel now. You are with a BUNCH of losers.(UPP)

  2. I concur with Mr Pompey on this one, you can’t preempt the investigation, especially where yourself has not seen a physical impression or shrapnel at the said vicinity, I believe it was assume base on a perception of imagery of the ALP party known for their unpredictable behavior.

  3. @Prim, if Mr Marsh doesn’t have a chance of winning St Paul, why is the red kool aid mafia trying to snuff him out?

  4. Calling the incident, if it even happened, an assassination attempt is pure political manipulation. Antiguans and Barbudans, by and large, have been very wise in questioning this manipulative tactic.

Is this “assassination” report an attempt to look relevance and sympathy to try to GAIN traction against a strengthening Chet Greene? Seems way more likely.

Also since Wayne claims there were multiple previous attempts on his life, why were those never reported? This man cannot be serious. He takes us for fools.

Me nah swear for no body, and certainly for no lawyer that was already exposed making up tales by Dr. Cleon Athill. If shots were even really fired, could it be over knuckling somebody woman, a failed legal case, client funds or anything else?

The police are investigating and Wayne’s political career inches closer to destruction.

  5. Approximately twenty five years ago the same Rawlston Pompey, probably thought that the budding organized street thugs and gangs were a joke as well. Well not but a generation afterwards the government has to be scrambling with curfews and other legislations to cool down the gangs, as their chickens came home to roost and are running wild turning Antigua into The Wild Wild West.

Assassination is simply another term for a murder. ASOT was assassinated and so too was the young lady who was found several hundreds yards from Asot’s home at Dry Hill. She was assassinated by the members of a gang which she allegedly belonged to.

Rawlston Pompey should recognize the charged nature of the political game in Antigua & Barbuda and rhetoric which has the potential to escalate into violence similar to the Garrison Gang Style Politics of Haiti, Jamaica and other South American Nations.

I can guarantee you, even the female politicians and those aspiring to become politicians are ARMING themselves with firearms due to the nature of the criminal activities which are now becoming the NORM in the Nation.

  6. Well said @Ras Smood. What happened to the Scotland yard investigation that was supposed to be conducted on the murders of the two teenage girls? Are the gang bangers now indebted to the folks that have allowed them to be free from the consequences of all of their actions? Are they now political henchmen?

  7. Ras Smood, it’s too late for you. Your brain must have been smoked dry, so your rants can be put into context.

  8. @Power Corrupts Absolutely….

In my [short] existence here, in this realm, I realize…

a…I’m witnessing a vast cultural shift in the Caribbean over the past two decades, unlike anything which we’ve lived as over the last two hundred years. Depending on which side of the fence you sit, it runs through the reality of, the Good, de Bad, Dem Ugly.

b…speaking specifically, to Antigua, Barbuda & Redonda politics, it’s a known fact, that it gets UGLY mentally, spiritually, psychologically, and to a lesser degree physically.
Pause…take a minute or several, to ask yourself, why would one of Asot’s sister, allegedly, made the statement that her brother spoke to the fact, of not living to be an old man.
Now, I’m no Obeah Man, Mami Wata loves me, and Papa Legha made sure, when they rolled me up, I came here with some common sense, so, I can only feel the future, I can’t see it🦉; but, Asot was no Evil Kenivel, no #dare_devil, had no physical job (I could be wrong) that he made him feel threatened, did he have a premonition, was he physically ill bodily, I’m ASSuming and speculating; however, I’m surmising his sister’s comment could’ve been referring to his actions as a Politician, and those reacting to them. I’ll insert the infamous 🤜🏿👊🏿🤜🏿Tump_U_Inna_U_Mouth and clips from Lennox Weston comments.

c…I felt the WINDS of CHANGE, as I observed and was immersed in the campaigning and the changing, of the guards in 2004 General Elections. Living in Point & Villa, I witnessed some minor physical alterations, as RED SHUT POSSE were being used, as intimidator’s.
What was mostly evident was the “Cuss_U_Rass” Gwen da Vagabond style.

d…my thoughts are not meant, to be derogatory nor demeaning; but, to put in perspective the times from whence our Nation came, to where it is now and where it [could] end up in the future! This means being PROACTIVE when dealing with CRIMINALITY (yes, it’s in HUEman nature to commit crimes, since, crime in itself is a relative term based upon HUEman cultural norms from their learned habits); again, in today’s living and thriving HUEman Societies of which we are aware of, when it comes to crimes, on either side of the coin (criminal or crime solver) you are always in OFFENCE, proactive mode and staying ahead of the game. Less We Forget CRIME is a Sport.

I can forsee and guarantee anyone this, just like we now have ARMED GUARDS protecting businesses in Antigua (something many thought they wouldn’t witness in their lifetime in Antigua), prominent officials will be inclined to have ARMED GUARDS around them in public (many such individuals and their private residences have become armed fortresses with cameras, dogs, ARMED GUARDS). So, let who wants to be coy and comedic stay that way. I know street violence having being immersed and simmering in it, living in some of America’s most dangerous city’s, as a teenager in the 1970’s to now in my middle sixties. I came through, unscathed but, that can change in a heartbeat. Such violence may not reach our shores but, Haiti, most recently Jamaica have and its gaining traction in Trinidad up the Chain of Islands.

Presently, I reside in Baltimore City, after my Spirit got tossed up on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay, by the Whale 🐳🐋and caught up to my physical body🏃🏽🏃🏽which was running Da_Streets of America.
I’m not asking anyone, to tell me about Street Violence and the HABITS which drives it.
Our culture is changing with warp speed and so to MUST be our critical thinking, and when it comes to dealing with the Crimes of Today, Our policy makers have to be PROACTIVE.
😀😀😀now, if those policy makers themselves are criminals (crime is a relative concept), then it’s a #Free_Fall, #Free_4_All down the slippery slopes to perdition.

  9. This UPP continues to implode. When I first heard Marh I said to myself, this sounds like a good candidate. With the little work that Cleon Athill did and not known in the St.Paul’s community I thought Chet Green was in trouble. However, even before he officially became the candidate, the infighting started. I said infighting because Cleon was a UPP candidate in the last election. She seems not to know how to let go and continues to fight with her party. She continues to mobilize and one may wonder what is her motive. Since before her nomination by the UPP St.Paul’s were none existent to her. In fact most of the residence under 50 years old in Liberta did not know if remember her. Just saying the same political hand she continues to bite brought her to fame.
Marsh on the other hand , instead of keeping the momentum UPP had from the last election and his personal appeal. Within a few weeks picked the wrong fights. The public fights between him and Cleon have not gone him well. He started hearing people saying he is going to beat Chet and that got to his head. Do as far as I am concerned he already self destruct. To add to that this claim that he was a target near Chet’s community center if cannot be substantiated by the police will send him straight to cooks dump, This can even ruin his career as a lawyer.

    • “Within a few weeks picked the wrong fights”

HE IS SIMPLY FOLLOWING THE DICTATES OF THE CHAOS DEMON AND LITTLE BLACK BOY!

  10. Since when did Wayne Benjamin Marsh become a public figure? What is his claim to notoriety? Do you mean his questioning of the St. Paul’s clinics being under repairs with temporary relocation implementation?

Or is it his desire to throw his name into the political ring as a candidate for the UPP? Now, though I agree that the opposition should float a candidate in every constituency, what would be the reason for an attempted murder, *not assassination) in his life?

Why in the scheme of things that predecessor is openly challenging his credibility, would someone, anyone want to take him out as a candidate?

Could it be for other reasons in his life’s journey?
I don’t wish to question his report of being the victim of an attempted gunshot. What I question is his relevance.
His talk about political hygiene on air left many questions about his, even by the host of the program.
My grandmother used to say, “Pot ah call de kettle black”
I trust that the perpetrator will be apprehended.
