Dr. Baldwin Spencer – the former Prime Minister and Past Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) –
joined a chorus of UPP Candidates on Thursday night, November 17, calling for the removal of the Antigua Labour Party Government.
Spencer was speaking at the Party’s “Relief and Recovery Rally,” staged at Thwaites Corner, at which members of the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) also joined the call.
Spencer said the people of Antigua and Barbuda deserve much better than they are receiving from the Browne Administration.
Accordingly, he says, it would be in their best interest to redeem, and rescue the country and embark upon a serious recovery programme led by the UPP.
The former Prime Minister adds that, going forward, it should be everyone’s pledge to put country above party.
Spencer again endorsed the UPP’s 16 Candidates – known as “The Redeem Team” – saying he is satisfied that the Party is the answer to the country’s economic crisis,
and he reiterated that the UPP is committed to its “People First” philosophy.
Meanwhile, Dr. Spencer promised he will continue to work with the Party to bring about meaningful change in the country,
and he appealed to all the Candidates and Party supporters to ready themselves for the day of the election.

Even though I didn’t support the UPP in 2014, I do now however acknowledge that you’ve made the UPP a VERY electable party (enough credit wasn’t given to you at the time or now), especially after the destabilising years of the Lester Bird era.
Please accept my sincere apologies for falling for Gaston Browne’s falsehoods and perfidious double-dealings over the last two terms of office.

Bixtonian I too jumped at Gastón and believed that he was right person for the job. Never expected that the greed and getting wealthy would have been his major achievement. Today he is the biggest real estate owner and operator in Antigua, using government resources and inside information as an advantage- rental of house to the western imperialist Chinese owner. Building complex in Jennings housing the Cuban nurses and doctors and other government statutory offices. Purchasing of crown lands a few months before a government project so that he can swap. This includes his son who collects 30 thousand dollars payments from the treasury and his ex fronting and his in-laws and his wife charity and the restaurant and radio station down point and several parcels of lands at WIOC. He owns several backhoes and other heavy duty equipment to include the long boom excavator working in the deep water harbor for ever and ever. Then to cover up he encourage his ministers to also get wealthy , and they too continue to rob and use the state resources to gather wealth. Chet Greene using his ministry to build a multi million dolor building he call community center on his personal land in his personal name .He can now use that building as assist and walk into any bank for example. Then there is Robin on the Indian town lands – lands that value 20 dollars per square foot he got for 2 dollars EC. So while the average Antiguan is catching hell GB and his family and cabinet is getting wealthier and wealthier. This greed and accumulation of wealth by GB and his Cabinet has changed my mind from respecting him. OH and Farmer Browne – Antigua farmers are struggling for infrastructure- Roads , water , light etc . In a few short years again using government resources Farmer Browne has developed a farm with Wells dug by APUA, Water by APUA , Roads by PWD , Dam with Public work and agriculture assistance and lights. If this was a person that worked out of the private sector and acquire this wealth I would have given kudos. However using government resources, inside information, having equipment rented to government and getting paid from the treasury while others are not , property rented to government / statutory bodies are more than enough to send any leader in the democratic world to prison. These amount to treason on the purse of this country. We have people suffering for lack of medical attention. Waiting on medical benefits and the ministry of health for a simple 20, 30, 40 thousand dollars to undergo life savings operation. While we have a PM raking in Millions from the said ministry for rent to house Cuban doctors and nurses. So where is the humanity, where is the love for our fellow brothers and sisters, where is the love for country??? I am loosing my calmness as I write. We must put and end to all of this.

Gaston Browne has without a shadow of a doubt failed the citizens of Antigua & Barbuda. However, his supporters will still continue to support him even though he’ll put the self interests of his family; cabinet members and associates before the economy of the country.
I also note with interest, that your response was coherent, comprehensive, well explained as to why Antigua is in so much trouble to-date with this current self-enrichment administration.
However, and what really baffles many UPP supporters, is that when the ABLP supporters have an opportunity to defend Gaston Browne as coherently and as erudite as yourself, they resort to using unsavoury language, unintelligible soundbites and swearing.
It really does say a lot about the type of supporter that ABLP and Gaston Browne attracts – not really good for the future of our beautiful country.

@Frankly speaking: well summarized events of Welty accumulation in such a short time. It takes a lifetime of working to get a fraction of the wealth Gaston Browne and his just come Cabinet of Deplorables have accumulated. Some workers never get there.
Some get a windfall from insurance payout, winning the lottery or generational wealth passed dowm. As you said if it was private sector individual. You would have no problem. I still would raise a red flag on that. Eight years and you are land Baron, developer and flipper in a 170 square mile island? Very unusual. This is Antigua and Barbuda and anything goes with the conduct with ministers of government.
Governmental power needs to be decentralized. The Cabinet and Parliamentary Representatives should not be one of the same. Oversight of Cabinet decisions is badly needed.
