Two former employees of the Central Marketing Corporation (CMC) have been fined for stealing groceries from their workplace.

Cindy Roberts, 47, and Jalani Joseph, 23, pleaded guilty to jointly stealing $242 worth of groceries on June 29 while they were still employed at the CMC.

Additionally, Joseph stole an additional $279 worth of food items.

The theft was reported to the police by the manager, who presented CCTV footage as evidence.

Roberts claimed she stole the groceries to save money for her children’s summer camp, while Joseph stated that he had intended to pay for the items but got busy.

Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh imposed a fine of $300 each for the joint charge and an additional $300 for Joseph’s separate offense. The fines must be paid within a week.(OBSERVER)

  1. A customer’s theft is something you expect at all times. That is why you have security when they leave the premises. And you also install cameras to watch over your goods. But when the same people that you hire and pay are dishonest, I believe the Magistrate is much too lenient with her judgement. They have betrayed the trust that was placed in them. Business owners should be very aware of the rotten apples that they may have hired. No wonder sometimes these foreign shop owners don’t trust anyone with their cash.
