Former Ambassador says Antigua and Barbuda’s Embassy in China is an Unnecessary Cost

10

Former Ambassador Bruce Goodwin opposes Antigua and Barbuda opening an embassy in China due to the associated costs.

Despite the recent inauguration by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Goodwin deems it an unnecessary expense, suggesting funds could be better utilized for economic growth.

He highlights the existing Chinese Embassy and the effectiveness of the Non-Resident Ambassador mechanism.

Goodwin explains the diplomatic process, emphasizing the need for careful deliberation at the Cabinet level.

Prime Minister Browne, however, sees the embassy as a crucial step in strengthening relations.

  1. Commonsense!!!

Having a one-sided relationship is not strengthen your cause, so I don’t know what relationship this man is trying to strengthen with the Chinese, and at what cost?

Let me ask you wizards a simple question. What do Antigua have to give China that will strengthen our cause as a nation, what?

When someone have you at the ( you know what) and you are over your head with debt, it’s not a good place to be in. You are literally beholding to such a person, so I don’t know what position this man is strengthen!

If you have any integrity, borrow 5 dollars from someone and see how bad you feel, much less millions and millions of dollars..
This is a lost cause folks, and we need to reel this man in before he gives away this country.

He was dead set on making some terrible deals with the Nigerians, and now he has moved to the Chinese to go full blown crazy and give away our country.

    LETS STOP HIM PLEASE!!!

  2. Gaston Browne born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and he lives in a well cocooned bubble alongside similar types like he.

He has no idea or concept of how the majority of hardworking Antiguans REALLY live.

He continually wastes tax payers money on frivolity that only enhances him on the global stage.

The embassy in China 🇨🇳 is one such frivolous frivolity.

MY WORD GET RID AH HE

    • Gaston was born in poverty and not with a silver spoon in his mouth. These type of people can be dangerous as when they get power, they will grab everything they see. They think they should not be hungry again and don’t know when them belly full.

    We are in a conundrum

The Prime Minister and several member of his Cabinet signed a number of Agreements. The cost of these agreements to Antigua and Barbuda are unknown, but one can expect they will drive us deeper and deeper into debt..

There was a time I respected Bruce Goodwin. We are from the same era, so like him I had fire in my belly during the days of The Caribbean Liberation Movement. Times have changed and unfortunately Mr. Goodwin remains in the past.

Bruce Goodwin should have known that The Democratic National Alliance was nothing but a spoiler. Were it not for him and his disaffected cohorts; we would not be agonizing about Gaston Brown’s actions today.

Focus on the issues that change hearts and minds about the long term danger of the corrosive culture of corruption and all the fraudulent conduct which are the norm. There is no one: repeat no one; who supports the ABLP for any other reason than their access or wishes for access to the benefits of corruption, not available to others.

The new Embassy in China will be a short term obligation, but only if ALBP is out. There are 12 MOUs that were published as being signed. Many of which will be costly to Antigua and Barbuda for generations to come. Other deals are trickling out including the inauguration of a new Embassy; and Bruce Goodwin is focusing on the cost of a Resident Ambassador vs non-Resident Ambassador.

That’s why Gaston keeps winning; you want-to-be politicians are playing into his hand.
So sad, how a once promising leader today is irrelevant as he approaches his twilight years.

  4. @Dwaine Frazier.
Clarification needed please and you may be able to help. If Antigua and Barbuda is to establish a Embassy in China then I expect it to be in a building of sorts and that of course, costs money which we can scarcely afford. Second choice is a Resident Ambassador which would cost less as they could work in a less auspicious place without the frills of an Embassy. My question is, which is the preferred choice? Of all the MOUs and agreements trotted out there is one that bothers me most and which seems overlooked by some people. It is the proposed link between ABS and China News Media. Why on earth would China want this link and why did Gaston Browne agree to it? To me, this is the most sinister of all and I would urge Antiguans and Barbudans to look carefully behind the scenes on this one. Beware, beware, something very nasty is coming down the pipe. Forewarned is fore0armed.

  5. Bruce Goodwin shut up. You’re a HYPOCRITE. You were the worst DIPLOMAT for Antigua when you were in Cuba. No one listens to you. You jump from Political party and still got 12 votes in the election. Damn HYPOCRITE.

  6. There are good reasons for Antiguans to be concerned over the established relationship between Antigua and China. The Chinese has worked out Gaston and realised that he is a buffoon and he is easily manipulated.

The Chinese will continue to offer loans to him until it reaches the point where Antigua will not be in the position to repay the debt. Consequently, the Chinese will take control of Antigua. I am mindful of their development in Pears.

The Chinese has fenced round acres of land including a public road , preventing locals from having access and what has the government done about this? Nothing.

By the time Gaston is removed from office Antigua will be owned by the Repiblic of China. Antiguans should be in no doubt, the Chinese will be ten times worst than our former colonial masters.

Therefore, Antiguans needs to wake up to the realities of what lies ahead of us and rise up against enslavement through globalisation. Before long our market will be flooded with cheap products , made in China.

I would urge Antiguans to stop buying Chinese goods and look to other markets and object to the teaching of Mandarin to our school children.

We should have learned lessons from the scandal where ALP sold acres upon acres of our land to the Arabs, Shouls
et al, who are now selling back our lands in plots to us at an exorbitant amount.

Come on Antiguans, wake up and shine your eyes. Put a permanent blockage and stop buying Chinese goods 👌.

China has no interest in working collaboratively with Antigua for our good, but it will bleed us dry. Antiguans let’s mobilised ourselves and stop ALP before it is too late.

  7. You are spot on except when you say the Chinese will continue to offer us loans until it reaches the point we are unable to repay. Sorry to disappoint you but we have already passed that point, years ago. I can remember a Chinese posting on that very fact saying we will never be able to repay our debt to them. He seemed to be gloating too. Antigua will soon be renamed Chintigua thanks to the ‘Marvelous’ dunderhead we have as our leader. I can only reaffirm my belief Antigua must have committed some unforgivable sin in the past for which we are now paying the price. The burden on our back is there for all to see.
