TAPA BULLETIN: FLASH FLOOD WATCH
Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services
9:00 AM ECT, Friday, May 10, 2024

A flash flood watch is currently in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts, and Nevis.

The watch is valid from 10 AM until 4 PM this afternoon.

What This Means:
A flash flood watch indicates that moderate to major flooding is possible but not imminent in the watch area. Flash flooding is extremely dangerous.

Precautions:

  • Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas should prepare for potential flooding to safeguard life and property.
  • Be ready to move to higher ground if flooding rains develop or if a flash flood warning is issued.

Weather Conditions:

  • A low-level trough over the area may combine with daytime instability to cause significant cloud development and rainfall later this afternoon.
  • Rainfall could exceed 2 inches in a short period, potentially causing moderate to major flooding in areas already saturated.

Advisory:

  • Stay alert as an advisory or a warning could be issued at short notice if these flooding rains materialize.
  • Continue to monitor local radio or television for updates and possible warnings.

Forecaster: Lenard Josiah

  1. I am particularly concerned about our farmers. It’s very tough to navigate through these two extremes. From little or no water to too much water.
Whilst many persons are complaining about trying to navigate through the waters on the flooded roads, our farmers are counting their loss as thousands of crops were washed away by the heavy rains. Farming is a tough job and to lose your crops like this is not at all easy.

  2. HOW IS BARBUDA COPING? I KEEP HEARING ABOUT FLOODS ACROSS ANTIGUA BUT NOTHING ON BARBUDA WHICH IS MORE PRONE TO FLOODING DUE TO ITS VAST LOW LYING AREAS AND LACK OF MOUNTAINS
