Five Million Euros For Barbuda Reconstruction

10

The government says the European Union has provided €5 million Euros to assist with home rebuilding in Codrington, Barbuda.

The resources have been turned over to the UNDP which has published the equivalent of tender for the work to be undertaken.

The Cabinet says it was advised that the requirements published by the UNDP would exclude the local contractors; while those small firms have been engaged in rehabilitation work, they would not be able to present documents showing: a. incorporation as a registered business; b. three years’ of financial records; c. a bond that would be the equivalent of about 1/3 of the value of the job, and other requirements.

“The Cabinet has instructed the Foreign Minister to move the UNDP to lower their inflexible standards so that small contractors can participate in the Barbuda home-rebuilding exercise.”

  1. I hope those crazy Barbudans don’t come ask the government to give account for those monies as it is clear the funds will be managed by the UNDP.

    • “Those crazy Barbudans”?… You appear to have acquired a type of Flea from a type of Dog?.
The government still needs to give an account for the Internationally Donated Hurricane Irma Funds which it is deliberately avoiding (for now).

  2. Sounds like smaddy no trust smaddy with other smaddy monies…and sounds like smaddy trying to keep out the local front and backing man from stepping into some of these tenders…sounds good to me knowing the type of politicians and local fronting business or round the corner people we have here…oh well, just my seeing and understand of the relevant information above.

    • More like to themselves. UNDP; lets say a sub department of the UN. Then, the UN is the book keeper. The UN influential members are also members of EU.

  3. Lower their inflexible standards?…NO it’s to stop the PM and cronies from stealing and diverting the funds….again!..
