The Hurricane Season begins on June 1 but the Hurricane Center said it is not uncommon for systems to form in May.

According to Caribbean Online Weather (COW), on average roughly 60 Tropical Waves form each year between May and November with about 12 developing into Atlantic Tropical Cyclone.

On Wednesday afternoon, the wave was 1,500 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

According to the Hurricane Center, no tropical cyclone developments are expected over the next five to seven days, although the wave is expected to produce heavy rain and gusty winds in the Atlantic Ocean.

It is expected to arrive in the Caribbean area between Sunday and Tuesday.

A tropical wave is an elongated area of relatively low pressure that moves east to west across the tropics.

The Hurricane Center is expected to release its official forecast for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season on Thursday at 9 am.

Forecasters are expecting a very active season this year.
