Today, the first batch of Oxford-Astrazeneca Vaccine arrived in Antigua and Barbuda. The 5,000 vaccines, transported by a Regional Security System (RSS) aircraft dispatched to Antigua by Dominica, are a gift from the Government and People of Dominica.
The Front-line workers include Nurses and Doctors at the MSJMC, the Nurses and Doctors at the Hannah Thomas Hospital in Barbuda, the Police, Immigration and Customs Officers, ABDF Officers at Camp Blizzard, teachers with co-morbidities, and vulnerable students.
A registry will be established that will list all those who will receive from the first batch, beginning next week. Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Sir Molwyn Joseph and Director of Pharmaceutical Services Mr. Alfred Athill were at hand during the collection at the V.C Bird International Airport.
Additionally, 40,000 doses, at no cost, will be dispatched to Antigua and Barbuda by the Indian Government shortly, although a precise arrival date has not yet been fixed.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has also written, seeking an additional 100,000 doses to be paid for by the government.
The Indian Government has confirmed that any vaccines destined for Antigua will be shipped at the Indian Government’s expense. In all likelihood, the doses will be shipped via air cargo and not on a chartered aircraft at the expense of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.
The Government of Dominica, in the spirit of regional comradery, will also donate 5,000 vaccines to the Government of Grenada among other OECS member states, delivered also by the RSS air wing.

Still trying to understand why the PM was so deceptive & secretive about taking his vaccine……. He is not even onboard with us to take this Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine… Why did he take the Moderna vaccine, if it was taken at all? Was his family & the politicians & perhaps close associates were involved in getting the Moderna? It is highly unlikely that one single dosage was imported here for the PM…..Hmmmmmm Tom drunk but Tom ain’t no fool……!!
