Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivian Parker highlights the importance of fire safety education in reducing house fires nationwide. Parker, who also serves as the Fire Chief, expressed gratitude to the fire brigade for their dedication amidst ongoing challenges.
With over 200 house fires recorded this year, Parker stressed the need for increased community education.
He noted that many fires could have been prevented through better fire safety practices and awareness.
“We call on homeowners to be vigilant, especially with children at home. Negligence is a major cause of these fires,” Parker said.
The Fire Department is actively conducting educational programs in schools to promote fire prevention.
Parker also acknowledged the challenges faced by the All Saints Fire Department, responsible for covering the eastern side of the island due to the absence of a local fire station.
Plans are underway to establish a new station to better serve these communities.

Education is indeed critical.
In addition to schools, please could fire dept do series of social media education drops, and some short, action driven (not interview talk, talk) TV PSA’s?
The fire chief needs to impress upon his officers the importance of having water when they go to out fires…….
