Ferry slams into cruise ship in Antigua and Barbuda

An investigation has been launched after a marine collision in the St John’s Harbour on Monday evening.

The incident happened shortly before 7 as the Island Escape Ferry was returning from Barbuda.

The Ferry reportedly lost power and drifted into the hull of the Aida Luna cruise ship which was berthed in the Harbour.

No one was injured in the collision.

The incident resulted in superficial damage to the ship, but the ferry bore more of the damage.

Port Manager Darwin Telemaque says an investigation will be carried out by the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Marine Services and Merchant Shipping, ADOMS and a report submitted to the Port Authority with recommendations.

The incident could trigger a review of marine traffic in the Habour to prevent a recurrence.

  1. Something needs to be done very quickly to assure the cruise ship operators that this was a one-off incident.
We do not want to see them pulling out of Antigua and Barbuda.
